Saturday was the day I was "supposed" to ride 50 miles to mark a certain milestone, but 50 isn't much of a ride, and the weather and trails are just to nice. So it was an epic (for me) of 32 around Mt. Tam. Totaling 5,300' of climbing; did Highway 1 from Stinson to the Coastal Fire trail, up to Ridgecrest, down at Lauren Dell, Rocky Ridge, Lagunitas, Eldridge Grade, Hoo Koo E Koo, Old Railroad Grade and returning on the Coastal (which was a blast.) Tried to find the Lone Tree Fire Trail, didn't, so went up on Coastal. Beautiful day. Riding pavement with low pressure and knobbies is no fun, but diving off the road into the woods is awesome. Sadly my tire blew within sight of the Highway and a bit of bad luck from that point on (Broke pump, Pump tore valve cap out, Fellow MTB'er gave me a new tube which got cut by the rim...) Really great trip in any event. Legs were toast so Sunday I just did a little jaunt up the the Mt. Diablo South Gate entrance.

Out on Crabtree is where my cleats decided to lock up and I couldn't disengage. Oh... the memories!
I haven't been on the Orange Blossom or Sonora Road area in quite some time. Starting to feel that itch again.

Che bella montagna!
First day of snow for the season, and the first poppy sighting of spring on the same day !!! I need to go buy a lottery ticket.
Summit Road was closed though.

That is so cool. I'm trying to talk myself into going over there Sunday in hopes of seeing some snow.

50 relaxing miles from my house to Knights Ferry and back via River Rd.
I deviated on Morrison Rd., in retrospect it was a great idea, I could've ended up like Wily Coyote. The ironic part is, I just seen 127 hours last night. This rock was probably waiting for me for a millennia.

53 miles. 4900 feet of climbing. Parked at Sunol Ridge Regional Park in Pleasanton did Welch Creek, Kilkare Canyon and Palomares Canyon then looped back to the car on Dublin Canyon and Foothill.
There was a little snow on the top of Welch Creek.

Today was a race paced 24mile time trial from San Leandro to Cull Canyon (did Cull Canyon twice). My fastest time doing Cull Canyon in the past was 33minutes and 15seconds, I finished my second run of it today just a bit over an hour and 20minutes.
And then after that I did some hill repeats on this little half mile climb I found leading up to the EBRPD headquarters near Lake Chabot.
Probably around 30miles total, as Lake Chabot Road to the Lagoon lot is two miles, and I did four hill repeats.

There was still snow today. Thought about stopping and taking a picture, but that would have required me to take off layers, yes I said layers, of gloves. Too lazy.

MyLilPony and i went for our usual neighborhood loop today. I was not feeling strong, and was riding like a bag of rocks. So I thought, "Hey, if I can't pedal, maybe I can shoot!" So I did. The light was beautiful.

Outstanding pictures Curtis. I am always in awe of people who can nail a good shot.
I went on a nice 60mile jaunt with Ramon, Michael, Donald and Keith who set an impressive pace around the Primavera 100K route, with the addition of Old Calaveras (thanks Donald). My legs are officially sore. A good day at the office.

Met a guy on the Zampa bridge who walks it everyday. He's a retired ironworker looking to meet the guy who he took a picture of from the top of the span. On April 24, 2003, pre-bridge opening, he said someone hopped the fence and rode across. He says he'd like to meet him and give him the picture.

Had a lovely ride today. Rode the loop around Folsom Lake. Ended up with 86mi and 5200 ft on the day.

Finally picked up my bike on Wednesday and took her out today for her maiden voyage. *cue little trumpet* a modest(wee?) 5 mile ride from Benicia's 9th street park to the state park and back. I hope some day that said route will no longer kick my newbie behind.

On Saturday, I got in about 45 in the vineyards and orchards east of me. Today was 111 miles from Lodi up to Pine Grove and back. Snow level was at 2000'. It was a good weekend.

After a week of inactivity Sunday dawned bright and blue. So I rolled out and headed up Mt. Diablo. Lots of cars going up, and very few road bikes, mostly mountain. Long backup at the Southgate Ranger station, then it was smooth sailing. Road was closed past Juniper, and that was as far as skinny tires would go. It is always fun to ride up on snow days but the traffic is heavy.

On my rollers again. I need to find a way to make money without working. Or at least without having to work weekends.

Found a new hill to do OMG hill repeats on today. The kind that build mental toughness and have a real risk of falling over if you stop turning cranks. So much 20%, it'll make your head spin. I only did 3 since my legs were tired from Welch Creek and Palomares yesterday.
5.5 miles / 2000 feet of climbing.
Repeat #1 I was questioning my sanity.
Repeat #2 I was questioning the Deity,
(as in what kind of god lets men put a road up a hill this steep?)
Repeat #3 I was questioning reality, having lost all touch with it at some point.
