Did my first ride this weekend. Nice little backroad 30 mile round trip from Oakley to Discovery Bay and back. First ride and I'm totally addicted!!

Don't mince words
Saturday: Gordon Valley loop (we made a BF ride of it a couple years ago) with some team mates and other cycling friends. I found my legs and they didn't fail me.
Sunday: Winters loop that included Steiger and Cantelow Rds. It was going to be "...a little faster..." than Saturday's ride but I should've known by who showed up that it would become a hammerfest. I bridged up twice with cgallagh's help (we pretended that he was Renshaw & I was Cav,
as if) and I hung with the pack for 20 miles before my legs gave out. 
Then cgallagh and I traded pulls for the last 15 miles.
Today my legs are happy for a day off.

Still up in Mammoth Lakes, but this time I went for something different - mountain biking. The easier trails up at the top of the mountain (11,000+') still have a lot of snow on them, but the lower levels are wide open and a lot of fun. I probably ended up with about 20-25 miles of trail riding, and not much in the way climbing. The way it works is you buy a trail pass for the day, and the fee includes a shuttle bus service to the main lodge and gondola service to the top. So, you shuttle up, bomb down, and repeat until you've had enough. Even though it is mostly downhill, it is a surprisingly fatiguing endeavor. Roots, rocks, drops, trees, and other associated obstacles really keep you working to stay upright.

Was it crazy busy up there? My friend and I were up there this time a year ago and it was insanely crowded.

Nope - it's a ghost town up here. Look at the first and second pic - it's like that everywhere. People are telling me it's going to get real busy real fast though - evidently the jazz festival starts up Thursday night.

Changed back to the road bike for today's adventure. I left the condo and rode 48 miles down US 395 and then the Old Sherwin Grade to Round Valley. I got about 4 miles from the end of Pine Creek Road before I ran too low on water to continue climbing. No shade and high-90 temps conspired to force me to use my water faster than I was hoping for, and since there are no water stops in that particular bit of high desert, I made the call to u-turn and rendezvous with the wife, lunch, and cold refreshing beverages.
After a nice respite, we hit the dirt roads for a little desert rat action, found some old mine ruins and a local shooting pit way up in a box canyon that afforded us an opportunity for a nice plinking session with my newly acquired Henry .22 lever action. Man, that rifle is a ton-o-fun!

On Sat, I joined a few riders for a Wallace to Jesus Marie Rd. out and back. 43 mi w/ 4300 footies.
On Sun, made my way out to Thornton before the heat set in. started nice and mellow until we caught up with some local hammer heads. Hard pulls, mellowed out, hard pulls (wash-rinse-repeat). 50 mi.

Pleasanton to out past Livermore to Sunol back to Livermore (different route) back to Pleasanton. 55 miles on Saturday, 41 on Sunday.

I got in a 36.36 km ride after watching the TdF this morning. My first ride since the 11th due to an injured ankle and the lack of sunglasses. Beautiful day out and I actually saw 7 other cyclists, which is really unusual. One of them was another woman riding solo, even more unusual. She was the most enthusiastic in her greeting.
Now that I have my sunglasses and my ankle is better, I hope to spend more time on the road in the next couple of weeks before returning to work.

Parked my car at the Martinez AMTRAK, rode ~85 miles to Old Town Sacramento, and took the train back to Martinez.
