Don't mince words
Jerry saved our bacon. We owe him. That he charged us so little for parts + labor is a testament to his history. We'll be sure to give him props next time we're up there (which I hope is sooner rather than later).

Headed out to SF, and met Pete (taxi777) at Sports Basement at Crissy Fields. Rode through Marin Headlands, before the rain, then did Tiburon loop. Did not beat the rain, but at least it wasn't torential rain ... just a steady rain, but it was cold. Was surprised to see a number of Blazing Saddles riders out there (amazing they were even open for business).

Turned 50 today. Had to get the 50 miler in and observe the ride your age birthday tradition.
I was crunched for time but no worries. I live on a velodrome on purpose.
Like living in a golf course community if you golf.
50 Laps : 50 Miles, just my kind of thing and I don't know why. https://app.strava.com/activities/32737729
One Theory: There is a defect in the double century rider's psyche that confuses pleasure with pain.

I ride the area shown above by freight train . . . . In little nibble bit rides, 10 miles at a time. Remember, even dwarfs start small. Rode Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Up Taylor Road/Old Rte 40 to Newcastle and back past Trail Head to the house. Brrr is all I can say at 10:00 AM. Gotta give a plug for Jerry at the TrailHead. Stop in for a cup of coffee, it's always good. Anyways, finally pulled up a little lame from the ride this AM driving into work. Just a calf that I felt cramping Sunday. Forget ride your age. You folks are crazy !! Uh, er, it would be a long long ride for me at this stage of my life. Maybe by this summer I can try a 57 miler !!! Would that get one across the Sierra ?? Finally made it up Indian Hill Road, Newcastle, with a friend hectoring me. Any of you remember starting out and the effort it took to climb what seemed like endless hills ?? LOLZ.

It's too beautiful a ride to have nightmares about it. You can tackle Diablo in strides; 1st ride on South Gate Rd. to the pay station, 2nd ride same road to the Junction, 3rd try up to Juniper parking lot, and the 4th one up to the summit. Then you can handle North Gate Rd. to the summit.

I don't usually post to this thread unless I'm being a smart-ass.
I bike commute every day, and don't think you need a daily post about it. But Monday I got a pleasant surprise. I'd left a bit later, so unlike my normal day the sun was almost up when I started. A bit later I got this:

Don't mince words
I don't use this word frequently but this is awesome. A Full double rainbow. Looking as though you could ride right under it and be the King of the Rainbow, thus earning the jersey.
At the right end it's glowing like a laser. Great shot, Curtis!

I finally got a riding partner, my 17 yo HS senior son. He is in great athletic shape from baseball and simply rode away from me at any time he chose, and he has never ridden a road bike before. He boogered a shift and had to walk bout 200 feet on one steep hill, and I passed him and tried to get some distance but no way. That was Rock Springs Road off Taylor btw. But we got a great ride in the 42 deg chill here in the foothills.
Umney, where did you ride ?
And,
Merry Christmas !!!!

Today was one of those "probably bit of more than I can chew" days... From Carmel, I headed Southeast on Carmel Valley Road with the vague idea of seeing if I could make the top of Cahoon Summit, which is the divide between the Carmel Valley side and Greenfield in the Salinas Valley.
After reaching CV Village and getting revved up with a double expresso, I felt good, so up the hill I went. Much of the ride from there on out is through rolling ranch land, interspersed with narrow wooded canyons along the creek, and best of all, almost no traffic except the occasional pickup truck (complete with dogs in the back who wait until they're right next to you to start barking... guaranteed to get the adrenalin levels jumping). From the village it's about 17 miles of mostly uphill to to the top with really only one significant stretch of steep - about a mile of 8-9% grade. Once I got half way there, I refused to quit. I hit the summit (2400 ft. elevation) at mile 33 and it was well worth the views, with even a little snow on top.
The good news about this out and back is the climbing was mostly done, so down the hill I came. The road's not in the best shape in spots and there was still a lot of water on the road in the shaded areas, so I didn't really kamikaze it. And does anyone else get a brain freeze through their helmet vents when it's really cold outside?
With about 10 miles left in the busiest traffic part of CV Road, I was out of energy and starting to feel the bonk coming on, but I slogged in. 63 miles, 3800 feet of climbing and a nice sense of accomplishment to end 2012 with.
Some photos...

^^^ Man, what a gorgeous looking ride. Do you have it mapped out on Strava or ridewithgps? I'll be down in that area in March and would love to do this ride.

The part of the ride from Carmel to Carmel Valley Village is relatively busy with traffic at 45-60MPH. The shoulder is plenty wide in all but a few spots, but it's not my favorite part of the ride, so you could consider actually starting in the Village and avoiding the busy road.
If you do come down in March and want a slow climber to ride along with, send me a PM. Maybe I can join you.

Nice self portrait Marco. Thanks for sharing. We hit 28 here but no snow. Son and I rode the local Ridge, he lead the way. It's where the HS kids drive to hang out. Weird, it was clean and no litter or graffiti. Tremendous views of the north Central Valley, great trip anyways. I just found out it's about $1 a pic to snap em' over here from my new wonder phone. Thinking about investing in Verizon.
