My flat metric from Vallejo to Rutherford and back. I think I should ride up to Napa more often, its just more scenic:)

Saturday 5 guys joined me for an easy 32 miles. I peeled off, they did another loop and hammered it. We all had fun.

Sunday, the shop ride, 37 mi. through the flats and orchards between Vacaville, Dixon, Winters. The almond orchards are in full bloom, the peaches right behind them, and the lambs are knobbular and adorable.

Solo ride up Diablo saturday. Gorgeous day out, lot's of people on the mountain. Saw 2 guy's with jersey's from The Spokesman in S.C. as I got my bike there as well we all agreed it's a hell of a shop.

Lanceoldstrong 02-26-12 06:47 PM

70 mile loopy thing down to Castro Valley with Crow Canyon and Norris Canyon
as a little revisit of the last section of the DMD route.

Cccorlew and Mililpony were fine company. http://app.strava.com/rides/4554429

Wife and I did 28 miles on the tandem, 3800' of climbing on the tandem (Henry Coe, Morgan Hill, CA). Of course 3100' of that is in less than 10 miles.

Diablo the hard way on Saturday; Wall Point/Summit Trail/Green Ranch/Curry Canyon/BBQ Terrace/Stage - 29 miles, 5700ft of ascent.
Really nice day out as I suffered my way up the mountain; past the site of the Mountain View Hotel and on to the ruins of the Green Ranch Youth Camp. Bringing it on on Stage Rd. is a blast as the water levels are pretty good on 5 of the crossings.

For Sunday did a less ambitious spin up Pleasanton Ridge out to the overlook bench.

cccorlew 02-27-12 08:04 PM

Went with Lance Oldstrong (referenced above here) and MyLilPony.
I can't shoot photos with my iPhone wearing gloves, so they're all stationary. Here's my favorite of the day.
We saw this at Peet's: A zillion dollar time trial bike with a non-aero trailer. For dogs.

Bit behind on this thread. Last weekend was an epic edition of the Snelling Road Race. The wind was unbelievable, but I learned a lot about hiding from it in this race. Developed a nice plan for success that, of course, fell apart on the last lap. Rolled in 21st.

Here's me in the background eating a slice of headwind pie:

Today was an easier weekend, I put in a really nice ~50miles with powpow for company as we pretended to do a recovery ride, but then again who am I kidding? Did Wildcat, then made for Montclair where I climbed Snake for the first time (oh dear, that doesn't sound right). Made the epic mistake of thinking we were done at the halfway point and sprinted for the, er, next corner. Descending Pinehurst and pushing the pace through Canyon to St Marys was a lot of fun. We climbed back up Happy Valley and finished up with Wildcat once more. So nice to ride the local hills again and have such glorious weather for March. A good day at the office.

did my familiar mt. diablo to the junction ride. the first four miles of south gate road always surprises me with a couple of unanticipated and unwelcome (:notamused:) corners before the kiosk/water fountain.

Nice jersey too! Well done.

jobob 03-05-12 12:28 PM

Very well done, LOS! (ah and I remember him way back when ... :D)

Leebob and I went on a very leisurely meander of the ARBT on Saturday, 68 miles with a nice lunch and a few stops to enjoy the scenery. What a glorious day out. That evening we had a fun dinner with a few bikeforums noteables, and on Sunday we went to the NAHBS. Great weekend.

Crap, I can barely manage 15 MPH on my 12 mile commute to work! Nicely done young man. You are a stud.

danec99 03-06-12 12:34 PM

@Freighttraininguphill

Did you ride the "steep dropoff" part of the trail? I am in Yuba City on Monday and hope to escape early for a ride. I had that Auburn trail in mind. Bullards Bar seems a bit out of reach, more Northern. I guess Salmon Falls is around there as well.

Midland 03-11-12 10:53 PM

Down Calaveras to Sierra rd. and back. Dang, that hill is steep. Had the pleasure of riding with LanceOldstrong and cccorlew. We had fun and laughs.Curtis was flying up the end of Sierra so I won't mention his difficulty with "the wall" ha ha

weather has restricted my riding this week. haven't done much mileage, but will try to get up S. gate tomorrow to junction on my new CF SS. i may be making this a weekly ritual. i'm also experimenting with dropping one of my BP medications that i think is slowing me down. (it must weight at LEAST 2gms!)

VNA 03-18-12 04:04 PM

The 3 Bears yesterday and some--surprisingly cold and very cloudy--felt good to get out! (43 miles).

done!

massive tailwind up S. Gate made it a pretty enjoyable ride to the junction. i saw a few cyclists that had descended from the top, stop and exhibit symptoms that lead me to believe the descent was way, way, way too cold.

BTW, (i know this belongs in the old people's forum) I now know that the Toprol XL is a strong performance inhibitor. without it for two days now and i feel like I'm fifty again :thumb:  !

On the way up Iron Point, I was passed by a woman who had said earlier that this was her first climb. It was her first road bike climb. She does mtb rides, which are excellent strength training for road climbs.

Near the end of the ride I ended up in front of everyone somehow, even though I was just going my normal fun speed. I'm going to continue to do these intermediate rides until I'm strong enough to keep up with the hammerheads on the faster rides (if that ever happens, that is).

As always this video is 100% natural sound, which means plenty of female cyclist suffer sounds on the one climb in the video, so be forewarned!

Nice job! I have a love/hate relationship with Costco Hill.

I raced Land Park twice on Saturday and then Bariani today. I'm wiped.

Kudos. Bariani was enough for me. Windy as hell in the afternoon, dropped after lap 1 then made the most of a solid training opportunity.

Survived the Solvang Double this past weekend. What made it really difficult was the wind on the 2nd half of the route. It felt like 30-35 mph winds ... whatever it was, it was really tough, and glad I was not one who DNF'd.

198 miles, 7425 ft climbing
Ride time, 13:49:52, total time 15:51:10, avg speed 14.3 mph
94th place, in Male, 1-49 age group ... made it in the first 100 ... woohoo

Solvang Double. Yikes.
