Saturday was three times up Mt Diablo. It looked like I wasnt the only one. I kept seeing the same riders. Sunday was a 50 mile/5800' loop in the santa cruz mountains.

The air on Diablo wasn't all that bad. No smoke below the inversion layer about halfway up, and not too terrible above that.

Went to the Lafayette criterium just to watch. Diablo daughter and a colleague's son won the team classification in the mixed juniors 8/9.

One buddy placed top ten in the P12 and another did OK in the M35/5

Also met BFer BikingShearer.

Blew a sew-up on the ride back home, patched it OK but didn't have any more glue.

Friday some friends and I went on our annual ride down the Big Sur coast between Pebble Beach and Cambria. Perfect weather, 108 miles, postcard views around every turn, what's not to like?

Today was a 45 mile recovery ride around Redwood Gulch, Stevens Canyon, Foothill, Page Mill, etc. Yep...this is what summer is all about! :thumb:

Nice pictures! I'll bet that was a sweet ride. Hard to imagine one prettier.

We rode the metric Marin century (see other post) and just got in from a 35 mile fairly flat recovery ride. It's only 85*, slight breeze, perfect summer cycling weather.

Life is good!

I love California :D

I'm in LA for the weekend. Yesterday Ron and I and a bunch of others climbed up to Mt. Baldy. The weather made this a very difficult ride of 67 miles. The last three miles up to the ski lifts was hotter than anything on the Death Ride. I had to stop in the shade a couple of times and shuffle around three water bottles.

Today was easier as the weather was a tad cooler. 65 miles around Newport beach and surrounding valleys.

Yea, the last little bit of redwood, including that hairpin turn is a doosey

Me and a friend went over the GG out to the headlands and up to Ross and back. Almost got hit 3 time by people trying to park in Sausalito. dang it 50 miles though

Do you mean the last bit of Pinehurst (Canyon up to Skyline)? Took me a few rides to realize that the last corner and the 3rd last corner seem somehow similar - worth pacing yourself!

Sat: Winters up to Mix Canyon, up and down Mix, back over Cantelow to Winters. Fairly short but a ton of climbing.

Sun: Short 30 mile flat land ride near Woodland.

Nothing exciting. Spent most of the day driving back and forth to Winters (twice). Short story. Bought a pair of Northwave shoes from bike shop there. They fit well. Got home and installed cleats. At the rearmost setting, toes are over pedal spindle. Drove back to return.

Yesterday a couple of friends & I made our way along the ARBT at William Pond Park out to Coffee Republic in Folsom, then north to Loomis, Penryn and a roll along English Colony Rd. Then on to Virginiatown to tackle the Ridge Road. Eastward to Ophir, then Newcastle, up Indian Hill Rd to Auburn and a deserved rest break. We made our way back to Folsom via Shirland Tract & Rattlesnake Bar Rd, and had a nice little TTT along Auburn-Folsom Blvd to Beals Point. From there it was the ARBT back to Pond, and home. 85 hilly miles, but a gorgeous day to be out. Of course, I've been paying for it today...

10 mile tandem dinner ride around campbell / willow glen. got a replacement hitch for the burley so we don't need to arrange babysitting every time we want to go for a bike ride. it's actually easier pulling the trailer with both of us pedalling, we both realized that we notice the extra weight a lot less than on our single bikes. just have to take it easy on those turns, because the train is about 12 feet long :D

I Biked town to Mountain View and back on Foothill. This weekend was going to be my first attempt at La Honda, but I received a desperate call to fix someones computer.

LouD-Reno 08-04-08 04:41 PM

Spent the last 5 days in Mt. Shasta, CA.... road Wednesday-Sunday... culminating in the Shasta Summit Super Century, billed as "tougher than the death ride".... I'm undecided.... Sundays ride was listed as 135 miles and 16500' of climbing..... my total for the 5 days..... about 375 miles and 33,000 of climbing.....

bigredgrad01 08-04-08 04:58 PM

SF to Point Reyes on Saturday, about 80 miles. Saw the century riders, resisted temptation to raid their rest stop for food :)

I'm back from my quick trip to Los Angeles. Sunday I rode with a group down in Orange County around Santiago Canyon/Back Bay. The weather was much more pleasant than the previous day so it was a fairly laid back 62 miles.

Took the kids up to Tahoe City to visit their Nana. Managed to get out on the dirt roads of Burton Creek State Park on the new experiment: Trek 660 as a cheap SS CX bike.

Sweet bike CalBear.
Your bikes always look great.

BTW, what tires are those... Kenda?

caloso 08-05-08 05:30 PM

Thanks! Yes, Kenda Kwicks. Cheap from Nashbar. They fit (just barely):
