Hi. I'm Chris, I'm 40 (God, I think that's the first time I've had to admit it!) and ride around as much as I can considering I have a 2 year old that requires much attention. I ride a Novara Strada and try to commute from Walnut Creek to Pleasanton (Ironhorse) at least once per week.
I did my first century last year and am planning on two this year. I've signed up for the Tour of Napa in August. I like to ride up Diablo whenever I can (which translates into once this season). I want to do the Diablo Challenge one of these years, but this year it coincides with the other century. My dream is to do the Aids Ride. Maybe next year if my conditioning continues to improve.
What I have in enthusiasm for cycling I make up for with lack of skills. I usually ride solo, and ended up in a large peloton during my first century--VERY SCARY. I slowly dropped back until those wheel-to-wheel speed demons passed me by. Hopefully someday I can be comfortable in a group, but I think it'll be awhile.
Chris

Hey kyle16 - hi neighbor to you too! I am sort of funemployed too...have a volunteer position and an internship that pays d!ck. So MWF mornings between 7-11:30 I'm free to ride. In fact, I'm going riding with someone else who I met off the net this coming Monday late-morning. We are meeting at Edgewood Rd/Canada Rd at 11am if you're interested.
Also - funny, but I'm also looking to do Mt. Shasta next Spring as well. I've been wanting to ski it for some time. My fiance has done it once and attempted it a second time. So, if you're looking for others...
Red_Leaf - I'm also thinking of signing up for the Tour de Napa, for the 100 mile.
And welcome! (I'm a noob too).

My friend and I were having thoughts of going on a guided group and spend a couple days on the mountain camping. What did your fiance do when he went?

Hi Chris! Hi All....
My Name is Pete. 47 Years Old. Getting back into road biking after 27 Years. I live in Walnut Creek. I have been riding 2 or 3 times a week. Mostly up Mt. Diablo from the North Gate area. 1 out 3 times I'll summit. Otherwise, it's a banana or Cliff Bar at the junction, and back down the same way. Have looped around the South Gate side once. Also, did a great loop from WC Olympic Blvd, Moraga, Rear Creek, Happy Valley, Deer Hill, Pleasant Hill, back to Olympic. Mostly ride alone, but would really enjoy riding with some easy going people. Thinkin' 'bout doing a charity (Buddy Ride) century in Sept. from Carmel to San Simeon. Would love to train for it with someone. Hope to hear from some Walnut Creeker's and hook up for some nice rides! Enjoy!

Welcome Tom, Steve and Pete - hope to meet you on a ride sometime soon. Why not come introduce yourselves at the July 25th Diablo KOM ride? Failing that, I'm sure we'll get another low key east bay ride sorted out one of these days.

Hey guys and gals. I'm Ernie, 49 and living in Elk Grove, just south of Sacramento. I got into road cycling a few months ago after riding mostly mountain bikes for the last 20 years or so. I'm riding about 3-4 days a week, mostly along the rural roads south of Elk Grove, along the delta or along the American River Bike trail. I'm riding roughly 50-75 miles per week and thoroughly enjoying it. Anyone in my area looking for someone to ride with, just let me know.

I'm curious though... how long before you have to replace white bartape? I like the look of it, but I can't imagine it saying nice for more than a couple of weeks.

Dirty white bartape is like pine tar on a batting helmet. You just let it go until it takes on a personality of its own.

Hello Norcal, I'm 17 and a road bike n00b. I've got my single speed mountain bike that is currently dead until I find money to replace my pike parts and send my ck hub in. I'm working on a beater ss bike after I had an amazing time going riding with a few friends. Hopefully this works out well and I'll have on of those carbon bad-boys one day. 'Till then, you'll see a lot of my noobery around here.

Hey Adrien. Doesn't matter if you're a noob as long as you are on your bike. Everyone has to start out at some point in their lives.

Name is Matt, turning 32 Sunday. I have been out of the saddle for about 10 years. Up through college I was a pretty avid cyclist however the usual things in life got in the way. So last week I bought myself a Fuji Roubaix, to change that. I live in the Walnut Creek area, so you might see me on any of the many trails in the area. I am pretty sure I am not up to group rides, not that I couldn't keep up, I just have no internal meter that tells me when to quit, which in my current shape could lead to nasty results. So, for now, I am just trying pace myself and drop the pounds.
