Hello NorCal! New rider from Sacramento, CA here. Purchased a vintage Nishiki last week and I love it. I've been commuting to work/gym then home on weekdays and this past weekend I went on the American River Trail both Saturday and Sunday. It's very awesome to enjoy the city on a bike, it feels like there's so much to do.

Once they finish construction on the trails, I'm down! I will be starting most of my cycle adventures from the Natomas area.

hey Chris and all riders out there in norcal and anybody coming from afar who would like to hook up for a great sf bay area ride. Check out thelocalsroute.com and meet up with a guide that will take you on that awesome local ride that otherwise would be difficult to figure out. No fee involved. Hope to hear from all.

Hi All,
Been on these forums for a quick minute now but for some reason had never spotted this area!
My name is Dylan, I'm 27, and live in San Jose. been bike commuting (7 miles almost exclusively on a trail) for almost 2 years. and started doing longer road rides last year. I did my first century last year up in Napa and loved it.
I also have gone down to the Velodrome a couple times and i think i love it even more.
Just started looking at cycle groups to join with to hopefully start getting more consistent rides in on the weekend/ weekday evenings.
I haven't really ever ridden with other people. The century was actually my first time not biking by myself.
I look forward to keeping an eye on this place and maybe seeing some of you on the road!

Hello. My name is Brian. Sonoma County resident, specifically the cultural mecca of Rohnert Park.
I started riding about 8 years ago when the price of Marlboros got too high. During the summer I may ride anywhere from 100 to 150 miles a weeks. None of it particularly fast. Mostly road riding but I do like to mix it up a bit with some mountain biking. I am fortunate enough to live in a place with decent riding a few minutes of wherever I may be.
I do have a serious bike fetish and own too many of them.

Hello, my name is Robert, from Butte County (Chico for all you bay area folks). I'm getting back into riding after being away for about 8 years.
I grew up in San Jose and at one point, I was logging at least 150 miles per week on the road and MTB. Then school, career and family pulled my away. Since that time, I balooned up to 236lbs and somehow developed arthritus in my hip. At 39 years of age my Dr told me I'll need a hip replacement eventually. On top of that, another Dr told me my blood chemestry was out of wack and I was flirting with being pre-diabetic. So, I decided it's time to litterally get off my a$$. Since December 2014, I've dropped 36lbs and have around 30lbs left to lose. Cycling has also helped my hips. As long as I get a few rides per week in, I have no hip pain. Eventually, I want to start doing centuries and gravel-grinders. But for now, I'd really like to find some riding partners. It doesnt look like there are a lot of Butte Co BF members around...

I'm Shay. I recently moved to Berkeley (Hills) from Israel.
I started cycling about 6 years ago, when I lived car free in West Jerusalem, and found out I'm starting to take the very long road home, just to get some more time in the saddle. This made my buy my first real road biking, and later racing (or rather, wheelsucking in races) for a couple of seasons.
The move to the US was quite stressing (as I suspect moving halfway around the world usually is), which forced me some time of the bike. So I'm both slow and don't really know the roads around here. You're welcome.

Hello Everyone,
My name is John am finally retired and I live in one of the suburbs just off I50 on the East Side of Sacramento. I am currently riding a Felt V85 and am in the hunt for a touring type bike. At almost 70, I have given up most of my crazy sports and am trying to learn to be a long distance or touring rider. I do a lot of riding on the Rancho Seco canal as it runs pretty close to the house and spend some time also on the American River Trail. Plan on doing some one and two day trips starting in the September/October time frame. Am up for company and any good suggestions on trails to try out.

I'm Blake, I'm 20, in my junior year at Stanford. I used to exclusively ride mountain bikes everywhere, and I was born and raised in SoCal. I started cycling at college, and I started doing Triathalons last summer. I go around on an aluminum Schwinn Hybrid bike, and I'm thinking about getting a Unicycle to ride around in the halls at school. I used to drive my car everywhere, until I realized riding a bike was a lot better for me, and faster too. I just registered on this forum to learn more about biking.

Hi all!! I'm Gary! I've been on here for a while but I haven't been active for the last couple of years. So I'm reintroducing myself...
I live in Daly City during the week and usually up in Fairfiled on the weekends. I've signed up for the Livestrong ride in Austin in October so I'm hoping to latch onto some rides over the next few months if I can.
My buddy from Dallas did the Waves to Wine ride with me here so I'm returning the favor and riding with him in Texas!
So I just wanted to reconnect and say hello! Hopefully I can ride with you guys soon!

Hello! My name is Gregory and I'm from Dinuba, which is a bit south of Fresno and technically (by about 20 miles) south of the center of California. However, my heart lies in the north and I lived in San Francisco while I was a student at SFSU. I've been an on-and-off cyclist for about eight years and have a passion for vintage road bikes (the V&C forum is where all of my posts to date have been). I'm 27 years old.
After being involved in a hit-and-run collision with a car a bit over a year ago and having a very nice vintage bicycle ruined beneath me, I took a break from cycling until about six months ago, when I went out for a few weeks on a bike I borrowed from my uncle and eventually had a water bottle thrown at my back by the passenger of a speeding car! About a month ago I built up the nerves to get back on the road only to realize the tires were getting pretty old, so a couple of rides in I returned the bike to my uncle and decided to buy something for myself.
Precisely a week ago I got my 1986 Club Fuji on the road and have managed ~150 miles over the course of five outings. It culminated in today's ride of 53 miles, which included wearing a backpack so that I could get my girlfriend a birthday present at Michael's, and drop by the LBS to pick up some new Bontrager road shoes.
I'm feeling very fit and am hoping that by mid-autumn I will be prepared for a solo tour across the northern portion of the Central Valley from Dinuba to Redding. It will be my first multi-day excursion, and I plan to return via Amtrak, so roughly five days out to cover 400 miles at a leisurely pace. Cheers!

Hi
Hi, I'm Nick. I just moved to Berkeley (near the Oakland border) from Wisconsin. Back in WI I worked as a mechanic and volunteered a lot with our local bike co-op. While I don't mind winter biking, a big reason for the move was better weather to bike in, a bigger bike scene, and better public transit (Yes, I know everyone complains about BART, but it's better than what we have back home) to enable me to be car-free. I've got a Pugsley for fun and an old steel Trek MTB for commuting.
I'd love to meet folks for riding fatbikes, and I'm down to volunteer at bike co-ops or events.

Hey, I'm Lin, a retired senior living in Albany (right next to Berkeley). After years of commuting to work, I shudder at the thought of driving. My car gets about 1000 miles a year now and I may even sell it. After restoring and riding a couple of 1990's Trek bikes, I purchased a used Bike Friday folding bike. After fixing it up, I love riding it so much that I sold my other bikes. I haven't done a lot of traveling with it yet (just Santa Cruz) but I ride about 20 miles a day all over the East Bay. Favorite rides are the Ohlone Greenway looped around Richmond to the Bay Trail, down to Emeryville and back as well as the Iron Horse in Walnut Creek. I think it is amazing that I get to ride in such a beautiful place!

Moved to Chico from Austin Tx. last year. Just getting back into biking. In the last two months I've picked up a mid-60s Raleigh Robin Hood and, this week, a Bridgestone RB-2. I really like these vintage steel frames, I guess. Pretty much covers the bases for me. Hope to run into anyone who happens to be out there. Happy trails.

Hey folks!
Been a member of the forum for a few years and rarely have I spoken up. Never noticed the regional /NorCal thread until this morning.
My name is Angelo, 32 years old. Had a serious ACL/MCL complete tear 3 years ago (non-cyling injury.. basketball :/) and re-aggravated it every year until this year where I fully recovered! Started cycling again last week to commute to work 3 times a week (at least that's the plan) and hoping to commute fulltime once I get comfortable again. My commute to work isn't bad, 3.2 miles one way with a slight ~200ft elevation gain. My ride home is a quite different at 4.4 miles with ~450ft elevation gain.
I plan on riding the Sawyer Camp trail on Saturday mornings and possibly try riding further south to reach Palo Alto and back.
Anyway, I ride a vintage Miyata hybrid that's trying to be a road bike... but my lower back won't allow drop bars
I've had this bike since 2011 and have enjoyed every ride!

Well I'm Gary a 60 Y/O slightly disabled retired re-entry rider after a few years well quite a few 39 or so. Not sure I belong here as I'm darn near dead center of the state so I don't know if southern or northern is right. I haven't seen a central Ca or Central Valley group. I'm in the process of restoring a Raleigh M-50 I got for a song. it's rideable but needs some shifters and a few little things to be good as gold. hopefully santa will get em for me.

Nick here. 31. Native Ohioan. Just moved to Sacramento by way of LA, Oakland, Seattle, Tucson, Chicago, and Cleveland. My wife's job brought us to town (Curtis Park), and so far we love it.
I'm a recovering road/cross racer (was active in the Chicago Cross Cup from 2011-2015), but occasionally show up for a race. Been doing lots of gravel riding, mountain biking, and touring in recent years. Ride a little bit of everything, and usually have a beer or two while I'm doing it. Shout if anyone wants to shred. Pretty irreverent, like to ride hard and have a laugh, and I'll make fun of your Rapha/Radavist obsession.

just a note to complain lol
Had the wife talked into letting me spend around 40 to 50 bucks on new tires for my Raleigh. But decided to spend 400at the vet on her Chihuahua instead. can't ride the dog but life is a lot more pleasant around here than if I'd bought the tires instead. lol Oh well I do love that silly old dog too.

still scratching my head
I do a lot of scratching my head when it comes to working on them. It's slowly coming back. I used to be able to adjust the brakes, shifters and derailleurs in my sleep now it takes antacids and profanity to do it

Hey @2cam16 (don't know if that will work, trying to tag 2cam and that's how it works in the other two forums I'm on) Reedley isn't really Northern California, in fact it's pretty much right in the middle, are there any groups in Ca that assist people in getting bikes? I've got 2 friends here in my mobile home park that would ride with me if they could get a bike. I'm saving up to get wifey one, but that's gonna be a chore. All my change putting it in rolls is gonna take forever
