Finally Figured out my Commute from SJ to San Mateo (well... sorta)
Well I figured out the way out of downtown SJ. I did some recon.
Now I just have one last question.
Help be decide between the following routes.
#1 climbs Sand Hill/Manzanita to go from Foothill Expy to Caņada Rd. Then I descend Crystal Springs to get home. The route is 40 miles.
#2 Continues on Alameda de las Pulgas from Foothill all the way home (I live right off of Alameda de las Pulgas). The route is 32 miles
I know that Caņada is nicer than Alameda de las Pulgas, but 40 miles can be a little much to do a few times per week. In other words it may lessen my motivation to take on a nice 60 mile ride on the weekend. I might be better off with the 32 mile ride. Maybe it wont make such a difference. I don't know?
The other thing is I usually ride Caņada during my weekend rides. Maybe seeing another road will mix things up.
I know there are parts of Alameda de las Pulgas that are pretty steep (up/down/up/down), heh. Whereas, Sandhill, is a pretty steady climb (pretty easy).
Here is route #1:

Here is route #2:

PS- Bikely may take a few more hours before showing their elevation profiles (since I imported them from GPX format). You can see it on the toporoute links though.

I thought about that too, or edgewood.
But by then I am already getting pretty close to home.
They are all good options I guess.
I will try the more direct route and see what comes of it.
32 miles is not bad at all. It's not too much than the drive on 101/87.

I did route #2. It was no big deal.
32 miles, under 2 hours.
Avg speed = 18.7mph
I think I'll stick with that route.
