Definitely 100 mile. I did the 100k last year, and it didn't go down to the coast.

Not yet, I was actually planning on taking it apart. I ordered some Dura Ace cranks last night. I was just gonna use the Ultegra stuff, but the weight savings on the crank was like 135 grams or more so I had to do that.

I've come to the conclusion that I am not good enough to notice 135 gram weight difference. On the ride today, we were even contemplating if 700x23 is actually necessary, and that 700x25 may actually suffice.

Certain things are very noticable. Wheels and tires are a couple of them. If I go full Dura Ace it is closer to a lb difference. I already have a lighter frame and fork, lighter bars and stem, lighter pedals. So that can amount to quite a difference. When I ride my Mavic wheels I can feel they are slower then my eastons.

Here is a great buy on a great bike. A friend has been riding one of these for a while. He has a $5000 roadie but says this bike rides just as good. All the components are good, and will last. The price is right for what ya get. Id check on getting it with a compact crank.

https://www.ibexbikes.com/Bikes/APR-6600-Details.html

Here is the compact crank and its only 17.2 lbs same price

Then it was back to Bay Meadows via Alameda de les Pulgas (I think) or maybe Foothill part of the way, Canada, and then Crystal Springs.

Old La Honda and Tunitas were the two major climbs. The thing I remember most -- other than the endlessness of Tunitas Creek -- were the climate changes. It was foggy, blustery, and gray in Pescadero, and in the 90s by the time we were climbing that hill in Palo Alto.

Could you possibly translate that for someone thinking of coming over from Reno? LOL

I'm thinking about it. I'm riding Mile High in Chester on the 16th. I do want to come over and maybe meet some BF types, but it is going to depend on $ and time.

what route are you doing at Mile High? I'm pretty sure I'm going to attempt the 100, if I do it'll be the first one since Cool Breeze last year... however, its a fairly flat route so I'm not too worried

Do you know if Asia will be able to do this?

I'm shooting for the 100 (actually 108). That is why I waited so long to decide on that one-I wanted to see how I felt after last weekend (Lodi Sunrise, my 1st century). I think total climbing is only around 2,500(?), but I understand there is a pretty big climb 3/4 of the way through. The altitude is the same as here so that should be alright.

I can't imagine why they'd want to go up 84 instead of OLH unless they're looking to lessen the amount of elevation climbed.

I think it might be political. The residents of Old La Honda probably forced the route out of their streets, and onto heavily traveled, Hwy 84.

I'm in. Did the metric last year....on the full century this time. The metric is basically your portola loop with a page mill / altmont / foothill extention. Kind of bummed OLH isn't in the picture this year; ascents on 84 east are scetchy due to traffic...hopefully the sheer magnitude of cyclists will lead to more perception from the motorists.

Well, if everyone knows where OLH starts and ends, why not just make an adjustment to your ride and go up OLH instead of 84? It's not like it's going to make a huge difference in mileage, and if it's a public road then there ya go. I've gone on mind-numbingly boring rides that have been lots of fun simply because we knew the roads and just made up our own ride within the ride.

+1 ... we could just go up Old La Honda, and continue until it intersects with 84, then be on the route. Great idea!

Great idea, Im in. Even if it adds mileage I dont care. Better to stay off 84.

Sean to avoid me actually pulling up a map or open my almanac, what is the closest airport I could utilize? Thanks for continuing to support my lazy habit.
