Looking for a route from Sacramento to Modesto

I want to ride my bike from Sacramento to Modesto (rather than drive) this weekend. I am wondering if anyone knows of any good North/South roads east of Hwy 99 that I can use. Of course I can look at a map, but it will not tell me how much traffic, how wide the sholder is etc. Even if you only know of roads that cover part of that distnace let me know and maybe I can find ways to connect them with others.

Thanks,

Josh

I should have mentioned that what I am looking at so far is taking Clay Station Rd. (off Dillard) south out of Sac, it turns into Elliot Rd. Then getting onto Jack Tone Rd. which will take me all the way into Ripon. I'll have to figure out a route from there. Does anyone have knowledge of the roads I mentioned? Are they good options or should I avoid them?

Try contacting one of the officers from the Stockton Bike Club. They should be able to help you. I know that if you make your way over to Farmington, then it's a straight shoot into Motown on Escalon-Bellota Rd.

Good luck,

BR

Thanks for the idea BenRidin, I have a buddy who lives in Stockton, maybe I'll talk to him and see if he knows any of the Stockton Bike club guys. So far this is what I have come up with:

North Natomas to the American River trail
Exit the trail at Howe and go south
Howe to Jackson Rd. (Hwy 16) head east
R onto Excelsior (South)
L onto Sheldon
R onto Grant Line Rd.
L onto Wilton
L onto Dillard
R onto Clay Station
Clay Station Turns into N Elliot
R onto Hwy 12/88
L onto Jack Tone Rd
L onto E. Mariposa Rd
R onto Escalon-Bellota Rd.
Turns into McHenry
Arrive in Modesto

Should be around 130 miles. Anyone see any roads or sections here that I should avoid?

Thanks again.
