Chances of Early Bird being held tomorrow?

Trying to decide what to do about the scheduled EB tomorrow. Web site says "heavy rain" cancels, however I have a 4 hour round trip in order to attend and would like to be as sure as possible it will go off as planned if I drive all the way down. Forecast shows rain between 9am and 1pm

Anybody attend previous EBs where it rained? Have any EBs been canceled?

That's a tough one, with a 4 hour head start. I wonder if any of their numbers on their site are for recorded information? I figure they have to make the call around that time in order to have their people hed out to setup, etc.. iirc, last year it rained all sat into sun morning once. The early races were held in a light rain and the ground was wet the whole time but "heavy rain" it was not. I guess it depends on how much it actually rains tomorrow. It really makes sense not to have the beginner sessions in nasty weather, the experience level varies greatly.

In anycase, the botdots will be wet, look out for others going over those. Have fun and remember the race at the end counts for nothing.

I saw this posted on another bike mailing list which seems rather helpful. Check this site tomorrow morning:

http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?r...101111&loop=no

If you click on loop you can see the progress of the rain and where its heading. And you can see the amount of rain based on dBZ:

dBZ Rain rate (mmh-1) Comments
10 ~0.2 Significant but mostly non-precipitating clouds
20 ~1 Drizzle, very light rain
30 ~3 Light rain
40 ~10 Moderate rain, showers
50 ~50 Heavy rain, thundershowers, some hail possible
60 ~200 Extremely heavy rain, severe thunderstorm, hail likely

But obviously the rain could change by the time you get here for the better or worse.

EBs are held rain or shine. I've been racing since 2002 and I don't think they've ever cancelled once since then. Robert and the Velo Promo crew will be there is my guess.

Sounds good, thanks everyone ...

So how did it go?

I had it in my head last night to go if the weather was okay, but despite it being non-rainy, I still decided not to. At 6:30 a.m. I just could not talk myself into the 8:30 4/5 start on wet pavement.

I just got back from the EB venue while the Masters were racing. The weather was nice in the morning wiht the sun peeking through. Clear skies but the temp is cold especially if you are just standing around. Pavement was dry too.

Cool. How was the 4/5s race?

I got there just after the 5s raced and there was a big tall dude walking with a dead bike and bandages all over his face and what appeared to be a missing tooth or two. I guess that's why they call them the crash fives.

I rode by there and watched for a bit.

Sorry, I didn't pay too much attention during the 4/5's.
Although I was impressed in the training sessions. A lot of trainers to the point that is almost 1:1. I saw a trainer nudging a rider by the elbow during tight turns and I noticed they were chatting and stayed together for most of the ride and I was thinking, that is what I need, ride in a tight pack while making a turn with a trainer on my side.
