Still no bikely ... waiting waiting waiting .... taps fingers .... yawn ... zzzzzz

sweetnsourbkr 04-10-08 09:09 PM

I love and hate bikely.

x136 04-10-08 10:16 PM

Is it tough to use? I've only viewed the results, and it's great in that respect. The vague, generic route descriptions that everyone bandies about (and apparently understand :)) might as well be in Klingon to me, so looking at an actual map and elevation profile is very useful.

There seem to be a few such sites out there, are any of them easier to use from a creation standpoint?

taxi777 04-10-08 10:39 PM

going on the 4th time with bikely and I can't get it to work. The computor is about 2 seconds from sailing out the F######## window! I'll try tomorrow. If and when WWIII ends here

spingineer 04-10-08 10:40 PM

I actually like bikely. I haven't really tried mapmyride, but that is another alternative. Routeslip.com is just not robust.

uspspro 04-10-08 10:44 PM

Pete,

What's wrong?

Just the elevation.

If so, it's OK, click rebuild graph after the route is final, and the elevation will show up in around 24 hrs

sweetnsourbkr 04-10-08 10:55 PM

This might become a bikely rant thread:

What I hate about bikely:
* Autorouting is stupider than my big fat toe,
* You can't add segments after a route is built; you need to redo the whole route, and
* The elevation calculator is one climb short of a full profile, in other words, not very consistent; I don't want to wait 24 hours when I can just redo the whole route by hand.

Trying to look for alternatives ... I'm sure this is a work in progress.

uspspro 04-10-08 11:02 PM

If you have a GPX file, I can put it into a GIS and get the actual stats. Results will be as accurate as the DEM (digital elevation model) data that I have, usually 30 meter XY and to the foot Z.

And don't forget the times you torture yourself to finish it..save and nothing!
I'm goin to sleep:(

I thought i remembered you saying something about bailout routes. Tricia's says she isn't up for 120 miles, and i think she's trying to save me from myself.

So, is there a shorter loop?

PrincessZippy 04-11-08 07:07 AM

You could start in Fairfax. Depending on how you went back that could cut the route down to as little as 45 miles.

Just split off at Fairfax and go up and over. We could alway's vote on it at the start and do the shorter version instead. I'm flexible, and it's actually supposed to be pretty hot Sunday. No pressure...well keep it low key. I'm not even sure how I'll be riding this weekend, it's been a tough week.

somebadlemonade 04-11-08 07:31 AM

O_o I think it's only 80 miles. . . And I think I wont be able to take on something that long for a while

Hey all, I've been driving my self crazy with the Bikely. I get to a certain point around ridgcrest pan toll where the whole map goes whacky and I really can't deal with it anymore so...We can ride to pt. reyes station for lunch from the city and anyone who wants to shorten the route can either skip Tam altogether or bail out at Fairfax and do Tam and back to the city. So I'm doing the ride as planned you can just follow me without pre-scientific data. I always travel with my compass and a dowsing stick so not to worry.

somebadlemonade 04-11-08 08:55 AM

I couldn't do it for 2 reasons. 1. I have yet to ride for more then 5 miles. And 2. I don't have a bike.

No Problem just drive along with us and feed us cookies. You can be the team car (SAG wagon)

uspspro 04-11-08 09:49 AM

So it is 120 miles then Pete?

somebadlemonade 04-11-08 09:52 AM

Though that would be awesome I don't have a car or a license. . .

If you guys do it again in a few months, I might come along.

Bostic 04-11-08 10:01 AM

Perhaps Pete can call someone or type up the streets and what not and one of us can try the bikely.

Might be better if we don't know. I went for a ride last night on the fixed gear which has no computer currently. Rode to Shaw's cycles then over to De Anza and Pierce, Mt Eden. By the time I got home I was wiped and bikely'd the route to find out it as 32 miles.

knotty 04-11-08 10:21 AM

I know nothing about Bikely. Is it possible to make a route on the Google distance finder and move that screenshot image to Bikely? Or, maybe just post the Google screen shot directly on BF?

Just wondering.

Bikely gives you an elevation profile with total climbing numbers.

knotty 04-11-08 10:41 AM

Ok, thanks, yes the specs would be very handy.

msincredible 04-11-08 11:42 AM

With bikely, I save very frequently.

When the autorouting screws up, I revert to the previous saved version, turn off the autorouting and do it manually.

Bostic 04-11-08 11:49 AM

Are there sections of junk miles on this ride Pete? We could always ride the Marin Headlands on the way back to tack on some more scenery. You know you want to ride down Conzleman from Hawk Hill with camera in one hand.

taxi777 04-11-08 04:08 PM

Not to be cranky, but I think I liked the old days "Pack a lunch and follow me":)

>PrincessZippy You could start in Fairfax Most are coming on caltains/Bart

>somebadlemonade O_o I think it's only 80 miles It's around 100 hundred from what I can recall

uspspro >So it is 120 miles then Pete? Same as above...I think

Bostic> Perhaps Pete can call someone or type up the streets and what not and one of us can try the bikely. I'm not completely ********...yet... would take to long and grandpa has arthritis and can't poop today. Oh and Mrs. Grandpa snapped at Grandpa this morning so grandpa's grouchy

uspspro> Bikely gives you an elevation profile with total climbing numbers. Since when is elevation a concern to you? You ride as if everything is flat anyway? :)

knotty >Ok, thanks, yes the specs would be very handy. Oh.. so you'll know when to shift? :)

msincredible >With bikely, I save very frequently. I learned that back in the DOS...You really think that's gonna change my bad habits....?;)

Bostic> Are there sections of junk miles on this ride Pete? Actually quite trashy, but very artsy...If I change the route now then you'll really start hatin on me...:(

I've had a very, very, long long week, and my therapist is out of town....You know I love all you guys and think your the best...but your the reason I don't have kids!....sheeeesshhh:eek:

let me try to work on bikely, I just didn't have a lot of time to work on it so I thought I could skate :o but you're all too sharp fo that!
Grampy poo....or Grumpy poo

Ha Ha!!!!Tricked ya!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/123920
