I wish I can do time trial. That looks really cool. And painful. But cool.
I am only passing along information that I heard from the official at the Diablo Hill Climb who said it was because the cycling organization did not want hairy armpits (mostly men) exposed. I thought that was pretty funny. For the record - I shave my armpits.

You are correct. I guess I didn't feel like I was TT'ing it because I am always holding back when riding, thinking about the run coming up. Heck, I don't even have an aerobar on my bike, so I just get on the drops as much as I can and try to pass for TT.

[quote=velogirls]not exactly. triathlon is a very aerobic, steady-state effort. so you're keeping your power output pretty consistent throughout (no surges or recovery) at a leverl just about red-line. [quote]

Yikes! I've been going more like 25% below red-line. That run after the bike is always in my head while I'm riding.

first, ew on the armpits -- that was a visual I didn't need this morning.

I guess my statement was mis-leading -- that's what I get for writing late at night while watching the Olympics.

What I was trying to express is that your intensity level is much lower in tri than in a typical TT, especially for the longer distance triathlons. that's all.
