ARBT Ride, Saturday September 20th!

Well, it looks like there's enough interest. So here's the scoop.

DATE CHANGE: SEPTEMBER 20. Due to conflict with the CycleFolsom event. Please note the change in the route by heading West first.

Saturday September 13th. Gathering at Hagan Park in Rancho Cordova (directions to follow) at the parking lot just past the High School. 7:30 am start time. Approx 65 miles. Since the starting location is pretty central, any point after about 35mi can be a bail for those that would like to cut it short.

We'll start heading West on the ARBT toward Discovery Park. Then turn around and head up to Folsom Lake and then to Karen's Bakery for lunch before returning to the start.

There are lots of places to fill water bottles and break to regroup. Keep in mind the trail is shared by many, so speed will have to be kept down to be considerate. So this will be a laid back ride. Though there are some places that you can really put the hammer down.

Directions:
50 to Rancho Cordova (it's a little East of Sac, about 7mi).
Exit on Mather Field Rd., Head N at the light.
Turn R onto Folsom.
Turn L at Dawes (there's a Carl's Jr. on the far corner on the left).
Go to end and turn R on Rinda.
Turn L at T intersection onto Chase.
Pass High School on R and pull into parking area at the bottom of the hill right before the park entrance.

List of those attending:
JoelS
unhookt
Mtbnomore
Huy and Julie
rushfan, redspoke, joining at Discovery Park

Joel, were you aware of the Folsom festival going on that weekend?

Crikey, I'm having bad luck picking a date! Guess we'll bump it up to the 20th.

Joel - heh, the Auburn Century is 9/20. Not sure how many people from here are planning on riding that, but I know I am.

Your ride will be cheaper. Less gas and no registration fee. I'm not good at going up hills on my 'bent, so I hope the trail is not to steep, and I can spin up it. That's the last weekend of my vacation, so I'll be there if it's still on.

The weekend of the 20th is bad for me. I'll either be doing the Tahoe Donner century or backpacking with the Boy Scouts.

I'm ok with with the 13th. Might be cool to check out the festival.

We can talk more about this on Sunday at the Davis ride.

I'm potentially interested if anyone's considering driving up from the (south?) bay.

Ok, the ride is on for the 20th, Auburn century not withstanding. If your not going to ride that century, ride with us!

I don't think that the climb up to Folsom lake gets much past 9% anywhere, and that will be a short stretch. I understand there is a 10% grade, but it's pretty darned short. None of the hills are what I would consider difficult, and I had to take a short break before the last stretch up Cantelow. Heck, my 6yo son made all the climbs, so there's no excuse!

If anyone wants to drive up the night before, I have a futon and an inflatable air mattress. There's also a big comfy leather chair. I figure room for 3. So long as you're not allergic to cats or dogs.

This ride does sound cool for Saturday Sep 20! I'll invite some friends! I'm in (assuming my wife does have to work that day... if she has a rare day off (medical intern) I'll spend it with her instead).

I'll be there if I don't have to work. Gotta put the new Surly Pacer through its paces (no pun intended).

If anyone is interested, but for a shorter distance, there's a 32 mile option. We'll pass back by Hagan Park at about the half way point. This shorter distance might be good for newer riders.

Well, now that I've got a road bike (Fuji Team Pro), I'll see if I can make it, would be a great way to help break it in and meet some BF folks!

Route change. After going to Old Sac for lunch with my son, there aren't really any good cycling friendly places to eat, and it's crowded with peds. In order to minimize opportunities for theft, we'll head to Discovery Park first and have lunch in Folsom.

Looks like a chilly start. I'm going to get some leg warmers between now and Saturday! Be prepared.

I have my fingers in my ears and am chanting "can't hear you" Not ready to the dark & cold reality of fall/winter approaching.

Is this ride going all the way to Discovery before turning around or somewhere between Rancho and Discovery? Reason I'm asking is because I'll meet you guys at that far end and ride with you to Karen's and back. I was looking to ride with others this weekend. I've been all solo since our River ride last month. Hermit-like.

Yup, to Discovery Park, turn around and head East. I expect we'll get down there between 8:30 and 9:00. See ya then!

I might be punting on this. I'm starting a contracting gig in Seattle on Monday and my time is getting crunched. Plus, I haven't ridden much since the delta ride, so if I join you, it'll probably only be for a couple of hours.

I'm another "Don't wait."
