The lowkey event is on Thanksgiving day. This fact precludes me from riding it since I already have plans that day for doing family things such as eating pie and turkey and possibly taking a nap. Therefore I am still up for Hamilton on 12/6

I've done this on the Bike Friday and chatted with another fellow BF'r at the observatory last time. It's a perfect climb for a decent folder.

I'm a probable on the standard route. Depends on winter sporting schedule.

Here's a slideshow from last year's Mt. Hamilton ride. Yesterday's climb wasn't nearly as cold as this ride was last year.

I'm trying to catch a ride to Mt Hamilton today. I want to ride it before I try and keep up with the usual mountain goats. Right now I am a maybe.

The weather should be a lot warmer than last year according to the current forecasts on various sites. What time is everyone expecting to start?

Pete if you take the train to Hillsdale, you're welcome to hitch a ride with us. Should get you there a bit sooner.

If for whatever reason, I'm riding solo. I'd probably grab the train too.

Sorry Ron, I'm going to have to bail on this. A prior commitment came back up that I will be honoring instead. Enjoy the penguin all.

Don't know my time constraint yet, but I can at least do part of this ride. I'll be riding to the start from Fremont so if anyone is coming from this way, we can meet somewhere earlier.

Let's start at 10 am.

The penguin reference??? Well, you'll have to refer to last year's Mt. Hamilton ride that was done in the first weekend of December.

Wow, did you see the roster so far? This will be another epic gladiator ride! I think we'll scare away the penguin!

I'm in along with Mr. Fixie and sister-in-law. I'm taking the Bike Friday this time, unless somebody feels masochistic and wants to go on the back of the tandem (it's totally adjustable, just bring your favorite pedals).

Looks like the climb is 19 miles and ascends over 4300 feet. The final climb is also the steepest. Absolutely brutal.

Should we start talking trash now or later?

What is a good target time for this climb? I am guessing that under three hours is pretty decent (from the school to the top). 1:33 would get you a mid-pack finish in this year's LKHC: https://lowkey.djconnel.com/2008/week9/results.html (Of the 111 men and 12 women who finished, the slowest non-junior rider finished in 2:20).

I am going to try to make it to the top in under three hours (including stops). Who here is shooting to break two hours?

EDIT: Looks like two unicyclists did the climb in 2:32 a couple of years ago: https://lowkey.djconnel.com/2006/week7/results.html. I will try to salvage my pride and beat 2:32!

Well, at least I wasn't the slowest. If I make it in 2 hours, I'll be ecstatic. If I make it in 2:08, I'll be happy. If I finish, I'll be content, I guess.

After riding Sweetwater Springs in Sonoma County last weekend on the folder (~1700 ft of climbing over 26 miles, almost all of it within the span of about 4-6 steep miles), I have abandoned the thought of doing this climb on my Xootr. It probably could be done, but it would be painful and likely not much fun.

I'm thinking of being a one-man autobus on this one. Hmmm........

Ramon and I did this today in 1:56 (he was totally resting so I could keep up). It's not as bad as it looks.

I did Mt. Ham on the last BF ride with the Moulton. It was great. With your vastly superior 451 wheels pumped up to 120 psi, you should have no problems at all . (inside joke)

Ruth & I pulled a 1:49:09 on the tandem.

I swear we arrived at the final climb with an ET of like 1:00 (not sure exactly), and I was like cool we are doing pretty good. But that final climb took us forever.

SACRILEGE!!!! I revoke your folder license.

(yes, it's not fun on a single chainring swift. maybe it's time to purchase their front derailleur kit?)
