SF--approaching the City via Third St...

Anyone else use Third Street to head into San Francisco from the Peninsula?

This has been my commute route for much of this year; I'm getting really tired of the section that passes through Bayview.

It's not the crappy condition of the roads, it's the fact that too many blocks lack adequate shoulders / road width to share the lane safely with cars and too many meathead motorists along the route think any bicyclist "taking the lane" deserves a bumper up their butt. This is despite the fact there are TWO lanes heading in the same direction, allowing, in theory, safe and easy passing. And yes, I let people by if the lane widens enough to make it safe to do so and I'm not already moving with the flow of traffic.

Once downtown, I notice things mellow out considerably. I suppose this due to the greater number of cyclists in the core city center compared to the outer neighborhoods.

Yes, I just needed to vent.

You can try bayshore to ceasar chavez then back to third street (although the section between paul and silver is terrible).

What about ElCamino/Allemany/San jose/Caeser Chavez /Potrero
Sounds zig zaggy but is actually quite efficient

I'll have to try that route one day. Seems like El Camino would be a pain though; many more stop lights than Bayshore/Third.
