Penguin search on Mt. Diablo, Fri 12/19

I took the day off on 12/19 so I'm heading up Mt. Diablo in the morning.
Anyone want to come (and lead the way)?

Cool.

The numbers of us that have never been up Diablo are getting very few. (I'm sure Alan has been up.)

Hmmm.....hmmm.....12/19, eh...hmmm...I might have to work from home that day...hmmm...

Damn it, just saw the Company calendar and it's our Holiday Party, starting at 11:30! What kind of party starts that early in the morning!?!?

Perhaps you're thinking of starting early? If that's the case, I can try to do a out-and-back and still make it to work on time?

I hate it when work cuts into riding.

Not sure. If anyone wanted to carpool I can drive to where people normally start... Perhaps the same route you guys took this past weekend.

Looks like I am in as well. I tried my hand at Mt. Diablo for the first time last Saturday with all our fellow BFer's and I think I am addicted!! I think I have made my peace with being a climber, not a sprinter..

I would like to join you all, I could meet you at Blackhawk Starbucks or the entrance to Athenian School.
Let me know what time as I will be cycling from Livermore.

Henry, yes, it is on the way. Btw, in case anyone is interested, I took the liberty of modifying the original bikely route to match the route we took last Saturday (includes the route through Walnut Creek that Jim/Benridin guided us through). The coffee shop is about 8 and a quarter miles into the route.

Awesome! I was wondering where exactly that shortcut had taken us

You might prefer the more straight-forward and quieter route (MUP) on the other side of Ygnacio:

https://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...io-Valley-Road

It goes by Countrywood Shopping Center which has a great burrito shop plus Jamba, Starbucks, Safeway, even <gasp> donuts!.

The idea riding the designated route, was twofold. One to show the riders another alternative to the (dreaded) MUP, and personal, I just don't trust MUP's. I often feel they are a hazard.

But people get lost back there in the suburban ranch homeland you took them through. I just wanted them to know there's another way that's easy to remember in case they do it again without you. Plus, Homestead has got to be more hazardous than the Canal Trail.

I think it would be fortuitous to have a one...Diablo Scott lead the Gladiators into battle at some point...is this a prophecy of which I speak?

Is this ride still happening? I noticed that there is snow on top of Diablo, will it still be open?

I guess it depends on whether the road is still closed or not. We should know more tomorrow I think.

I am taking tomorrow off. Dentist appointment at 10am in San Francisco but I'm planning on bringing the bike along and doing a ride somewhere afterwards.
