Ride Saturday 1/10
The 10th looks like it will be nice, Sunny & 60ish. Does anyone have a ride this day? If not, lets suggest one. Between vacations and getting back to work this week I think it just might be my first ride of the year.
|
I had planned the Woodside Deadends ride for that day (original post). Whether we do that route or something else I definitely want to get out on the bike this weekend since I haven't ridden in almost 2 weeks!
|
Ben, your ride looks great to me (it helps that it is in my backyard, too). You should be pretty well rested but this ride will wake those legs up. Would the starting point be Woodside and Canada?
So count me in for the ride. Or count me in for whatever group ride is on for Saturday. |
Whoa, I'm down for something, but I'm worried about that route. My last ride was a week ago tomorrow and my knee was going to pieces just going up Pagemill.
Hopefully undoing the adjustments I'd made and rest will have resolve that problem, but I'd still vote for something a little wimpier. If everyone else agrees, I'll just plan to bail a little early and see how it feels. |
Looks like a great ride Ben, I plan on attending.

Okay let's meet Saturday at 10:00am at the Pioneer hotel at the corner of Woodside and Whiskey Hill roads. There should be parking available behind the hotel. I stole this location from one of the Western Wheelers rides. Hopefully it's a little less chaotic than the Woodside and Canada intersection.
Chris (Ygduf), you could bail on any or all of the dead ends that branch off of Skyline. This would make your ride pretty short mileage wise but that could be remedied by riding to and from the start :) Bikely route: here Bikely Stats: 44 miles, 6800 feet of climbing. But the climbing can be pared down by cutting out any of the dead end segments. In so far: silentben chrisoco Bostic Ygduf spingineer uspspro my brother CRSturdivant dl33 (maybe) bam |
[Rubbing eyes] Did I see that correctly? That is 6,800 ft of climbing in approx. 40 miles of ride?
|
I'm in for whatever I can handle. Is there parking up there? I'm thinking the 70+ mile w/round trip is more than I care to chew.
|
I'm in for sure, but none of those links are working for me. I'll be coming on Caltrains.

I'm in ... for some of it at least.

http://img378.imageshack.us/img378/2018/klimbfk7.th.png The above chart doesn't include the Summit Springs bit at the end but that's optional anyway (read: nobody's gonna feel like doing it :D) |

Should be in, on the tandem.

That Bear Gulch climb at mile 27 is going to be interesting. I'll be bringing the triple for this ride.

If only all the animals I've eaten over the holidays could help pull me up the hill. |

I ended up riding for ~3months with suboptimal fit and it took me quite a while longer to properly diagnose my problem and rehab my knee (PT, rest, ice, exercises etc.). There's nothing like knee pain to really take away your ability to give your all on a climb; I hated that.:(
I made some changes to my saddle height and fore/aft positioning to try and ease some (non-vital) upper back pain. I'll be undoing those changes before I ride again. I'd rather have some (seriously mild) neck pain than anything on my knees. My ride up Pagemill with Jack was the first time I've ever had knee pain and it will hopefully be the last. Actually, if I get out there and my knee is like that again I'm doing the wise thing and turning back. |
It's not that climb itself, it's all the cr@p rollers that is HW 35 that gets to me. The tighter spacing gear inch wise on a triple helps me out a lot.
|
I probably won't have time to drive all the way to the peninsula. Instead, I'll likely do an East Bay ride. Feel free to ping if you want to join. I may try GPC's Alex's Second Saturday Ride, which I've never tried. Details on the GPC website.
|
I'm probably going to skip Star Hill and Bear Gulch, but will still do Swett Road. That should still get me 23 miles, and 2500 feet climbing, plus an extra 38 miles riding to and from the start. It should give me enough so that I can still do the Sunday ride.
|
I should be there. I need to get a group ride in with you guys again, its always the highlight of my week.
