January 4 Ride
At about 11:30 I met up with Clay (VaultGuru), Rad (not a member here), and Dan (soon to become a member here) for a short, but rather hilly ride. The weather was outstanding as we set out. Sunny and near on to 50 degrees. Very comfortable riding weather.
We set out and it wasn't long before we were off the well beaten path and into the hills South of Cameron Park. We climbed up and through them before returning a couple of hours later. Total distance was 34.59 miles. Due to all the climbing (3222 feet), it took a while and our average was a speedy 14.034 mph, even though some of the flats had us pacing in the mid 20's.
Here's a picture of the ride profile. Grades hit as high as 18%.
Dan and Rad topping out on the first ascent:
A closer up picture of Dan riding an old Trek. He's very exciting about the build of a Kestrel that he's working on. He'll be climbing like a mountain goat when he gets it completed:
Scenic shot looking south. It was clear enough to see Diablo, but it didn't show up in the picture:
Another scenic shot:
From the left, Dan - Me - Rad. Clay took the picture:
Thanks for leading the ride Clay. It was great fun.

man, I only have non-cold-weather gear... I didn't think it would be as cold to ride and I've been hesitant to purchase some cooler weather clothes just for a few more weeks... <sigh>
looks like a fun time!

Joel, you got the route right. I can do it on Iphone, but I need reception. Satelite is a lot more reliable. You are getting a lot stronger, which is really scary. I have to do twice your riding to stay with you this year. Good job

Thanks! I have you to thank for the recent burst. The rides we've been doing are pushing me pretty hard, especially the pace on the flats.

Nice to know, we will ride flats all summer :-)
Get ready for lots of hills. We have to prepare for STP.

I'm as ready as I'll be. I also put my bike in the shop today to have that rear wheel retensioned again, and to have them check the noise the rear der was making. Should be ready in a few days, so I'll be set for whatever you have planned this weekend!
