The First Minute
Looking back on 2009 (the first minute)
1 minute into 2009 and I can tell it's gonna be a good year! I feel it. This past minute has been life changing. The changes I've gone through in 60 seconds have been immense. I've written volumes of virtual blogs in my mind and music aplenty. I'm happy in the moment...I'm on my bike and I'm floating...no! I'm soaring! I believe in the future, it's all too beautiful.
In this first minute I'm riding along under marmalade skies and I'm free and smiling...Look it's Mary riding towards me..."Hey Mary!" and there's Carl and Ron "Hey Carl and Ron" I ride and they're all behind me now...My NorCal family and they're all on their bikes and smiling too!
I glance again and there they are;
Marco/ruth/the Chris's/ Curtis/Trish/Jon/Dan/Jo/Deb/Dave's/Lisa/John/Paula/Michael/Jack/Ray/Ramon/Henry/Melissa/Lorrie/MaryEllen/Rich/Alan/Joel/Mike/Mark....All of you I can't see that far!
We ride and we ride, through the year we ride. We are blessed with time and we're in each others mind. Let's not forget this minute and let it flow into many minutes, days and months.
Who blessed me with time to have you all in my mind.
Thankyou all for this minute and I look forward to all the following minutes!
Goodluck everyone, let's race together today...You will all be with me!

I'm glad you're so optimistic about 2009 based on what's transpired thus far.
I, too, share your outlook. In an incredible feat of self-discipline and mental toughness, I've managed to get a ride in EVERY day this year. Thus, I'm projecting I'll finish 2009 with 9,172 miles and 1,095,000 ft of climbing.
Oh, and Happy New Year to all!

Happy New Year NorCal
43 miles ridden in the fog and chill today, duly logged on bikejournal.
I am now on pace for 15,695 miles.
BigBossman is fixing up a sweet little Schwinn Traveler III converted to a Sora Triple for my 10 1/2 old daughter so 2009 will see the NorCal ranks swell by one more roadie.
I appreciate all of you so much. You are my club, my team, my peloton and mon ami.
See you all soon.

Happy New year, everyone!!
I rode 28 miles today just so I could be high on the bikejournal.com rankings. My 28 miles got me 154th at 1:30 pm. Now I'm like 387. I'll be like 1500 by the end of the year.
I enjoyed three rides with you folks in 2008 and I hope to do more. I like them because there's always someone as slow as I am (or you feel sorry for me and stay back to keep me company).

But happy.

Thanks for the tip on bikewire.net. I checked it out and it does look good. Much more functionality and much nicer interface. It looks like a new site, let's hope it stays up.

Bah. All you panty-waist Pollyannas make me sick.
For the first time in several years, I had a truly good year. Not as much riding as I would have liked, but the riding I did get in was great fun and I met a bunch of new folks through BF area rides, which was wonderful. My personal life has settled into a really good place, which, believe me, represents a significant upgrade from recent years. So my hope for 2009 is that it is just like 2008, except for more miles.
My wish for all of you is that your 2009 feels as good to you as my 2008 did to me.

I'll always remember (I hope) eating lunch (or trying to) at Steady Eddy's during the 1st laid-back ride, laughing my fanny off at you and BBMan going on like stand-up comedians. You two, and Chris, recalling all those Firesign Theater routines, cracked me up! My cheeks hurt from laughing so much.
It's definitely not how fast or how far, but how much fun you have, the determines the quality of the ride. I hope we all have more of that this year.
