Timed myself up North Gate for the first time today - clocked 82min 51s. Not stellar, but I was just timing. Now I have a target to beat.

Thanks Chris, I rode with a strong rider which helped. Having said that, it's clear that there are a lot faster folks than me out there in BF NorCal land...always good to have a target!

New PR on OLH. And, (HUSH Ramon and Michael!) I had 2 bottles and a full 100oz. camelback on. Anyway, still the best time I've ever put up on here.

Thanks Richard for the inspiration to test myself on OLH.

Aw man - now I've got to go back and try again, did I mention that I was slowed down by a removal truck during my climb?

Oh yeah, btw congrats on a nice time!

good ride up OLH, like the data

Hi, I don't know which contributor I am responding to, maybe "Beaker,"

Good ride up OLH. I really like all the concise data you posted. What program and equipment are you using on your bike? So now your PR is 24':19"? Right on. Keep trying. I noticed you had a pretty high HR avg., which tells me you were pushing. Do you know your Maximum Steady State (some people called this "VO2 Max. at some point in history)?

Hey Matthew - that data was from Chris/Ygduf. I'm interested to hear how this discussion plays out though, I think my HR data looks pretty similar (max 183, ave 174bpm).

The data is from a Garmin 705, uploaded to and parsed in Ascent.

I've never done a VO2 test, but I imagine it's right around 173. That's really hard to maintain, anything above it is temporary.

My best time up Diablo from the South Gate this year has been 91m 20s. Last year I did a 87m and change, but that was before my back started acting up.....

New PR up OLH

Dear BF enthusiasts,

You all got me going on the Old La Honda and hillclimb PRs again. Had to go out and try to "beat the hill" one more time. It won, as usual, but I figured out what I was doing wrong: raced the first half too hard so that I was not able to push as hard in the second half.

New PR is 19':11". Old PR was 20':01"

Thanks for all of your contributions, I read them with relish. Hope my experience can help others.

I had a new PR on the Three Bears loop yesterday: 56:34.

I was happy with this time as I've been sick the last two weeks and I still can't hear out of my right ear due to a sinus infection. Now I guess I'll aim for 55 minutes by the end of the summer.

Awesome - I enjoy reading about everyone's times - inspiring to see what can be achieved with dedication and talent. Gotta get me some more of both.

Where does the loop start and end? Corner of SPDR and Wildcat Canyon?

Yup

http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/3BearsLoop

edit: I realized that this loop I put into bikely is the "wrong way" if you look at the elevation profile - i.e. you would normally ride it clockwise.

Well, like everything, it's all relative. I've ridden with a guy who once did the loop in less than 50 minutes!

Don't tell me you're 185lbs. I'd have to sell my bike.

Woo hoo! New PR up south gate - 70min 47s - beat my previous best by ~5mins - sweet!

What's weird is I rode San Bruno Mountain yesterday and put in pretty poor time, didn't figure I was going to be on a good pace. Are some hills easier to improve on than others????

Olh

Did OLH for the first time this morning. 31:10. My riding partner wouldn't tell me how long the climb was so I still had something in the tank when I hit the top. I think I can get under 30 minutes.

Did OLH again (2nd time) this weekend... 31:45 -- I got 45 seconds SLOWER! The girl went ahead of me, had a chain pop off, I passed her, and she passed me again and STILL beat me!
