Early Bird Criteriums?

Who's going? I'll be there this Sunday 01/11/09 doing the skills clinic and the Cat5 Race.

kster 01-09-09 03:41 PM

Same here - I am planning on going sunday (cat5 35+).

uspspro 01-09-09 03:57 PM

Shoot. I'll go to the next one, since I want to do the Montebello ride for the mileage.

BlastRadius 01-09-09 05:09 PM

I'll be there Huy and possibly early enough for the 9:30 advanced clinic.
BottleRocket should be there too.

kudude 01-09-09 05:33 PM

I don't know anyone, but I'll be at the 3/4 race (8:30) and assuming I don't get crashed out (bad joke this time of year for these races, I know), I'll stick around for the clinic. I currently have a big fat doughnut's worth of upgrade points and I'm under the impression that they give you a free one for letting them teach you something about racing.

That god-awful early time is usually reserved for the Cat 5s. Thank goodness we get to go later in this series. :D

kaiserboy 01-09-09 09:07 PM

I will be there for round #2 with the 35+ Cat 5 boys :). I will be wearing my Stanislaus County Bicycle Club jersey. I will be at the 12:00 clinic as well. Say hello if you see me :thumb:

Dchiefransom 01-09-09 09:39 PM

What time do the races start? I should go watch you guys.

kster 01-09-09 09:43 PM

Here is the schedule:

scottmorrison99 01-09-09 10:55 PM

I'll be there for the mentoring clinic and the Cat5 35+. Blue and orange Precision Bike Shop kit.

Tapeworm21 01-09-09 11:33 PM

I'll be there. Talked to my boss and he's letting me go do the race. Won't be able to do the skills clinic unfortunately. I'm comfortable in a pack so hopefully all will be good. I'll be wearing hella Capo Forma stuff and a white/black Tarmac.

Red Rider 01-09-09 11:53 PM

Pass (again). Gaining karma by helping a dear friend pack and move. Next weekend, if I'm not working.

Good luck and have fun!

velogirls 01-10-09 12:50 AM

The girls and I are riding over from Menlo Park to do the Advanced Clinic and then heading back via San Jose for a good, solid day! Say hello if you see us (in pink, hard to miss us).

rumbutter 01-10-09 04:28 PM

I am riding over to cheer on my team mates on Sunday. See you all there.

khill 01-10-09 08:17 PM

Do you have to be there at 8? The over 35 Cat 5 doesn't start until 2:30 and it would be tough for me to hang out all day. (It does say reg. closes 15 min prior to each race)

kudude 01-10-09 09:32 PM

nope you don't have to be there until a little before your race. only us 3/4 wanna be slobs are stuck showing up that early

BlastRadius 01-10-09 10:16 PM

khill, you should try to do the 12:00pm clinic and get the most out of the $16.

That was the plan, thanks!

Ken

BlastRadius 01-11-09 09:47 AM

Heading out soon. I'll be in the black/blue bikeforums kit with my Bianchi.

Dchiefransom 01-11-09 03:06 PM

Didn't catch any of you today. I was in the tan and black jacket watching the 1/2/3/Pro race. Freddy Rodriguez edged out the #2 guy in the sprint. I watched most of it from the start/finish line. The guy has a radar gun, and several of the first laps were over 30 mph. The second lap you guys came around at 32 mph. Most of the laps seemed to be around 3 minutes. I understand from our Race Team members that those are pretty good lap times.

rumbutter 01-11-09 05:04 PM

Nice meeting up with a few of you today. Fast Freddy was very impressive and the weather was very nice too.

The highlight for me was the wolfdog guarding the yellow ranger pickup near the crappers. It was huge and when I went near it let out a snarl that made the hairs on the back of my kneck stand on end. Spooky yellow eyes too.

Its difficult to capture just how big this pooch was but you can clearly see his wolfy eyes in this picture.

kudude 01-11-09 07:10 PM

I slept through them.........................bad me.

Anyone go to the morning 3/4 and want to post a report? I'm also curious how the 5's went as I had several teammates attending

kaiserboy 01-11-09 08:22 PM

The 35+ Cat 5 was a pretty fast race. I was in the first group. I was with the pack until lap 6 then part of my pedal broke (Performance house brand). I then went way off the back. I will be back next week to give it another go.

Yeah, it was fast but a lot of fun (my Garmin reported an average speed of 24.8mph). I was in the second group (odd numbers) and it was a clean race.

scottmorrison99 01-11-09 08:38 PM

I was in the second group as well, went off the back when I looked up to see the guy in front of me was gapped and I couldn't make it back up, met up with BlastRadius who slid on back to me, and we picked up 4 more riders to work back toward the peleton. We never caught back on, but at least the other group never caught us. I should have stayed toward the front like last week. Oh well, it still was great fun. I saw that dog, I thought is was a mix of austrailian shepherd and MOOSE. Now seeing those pictures it looks wolfy.

This is why they call him Fast Freddy, He's a blur:
