Trek?

x136 01-16-09 08:58 PM

I know what it iiiis! I know what it iiiis!

Or at least what it was.

cccorlew 01-16-09 09:51 PM

It was a Gitane Tour de France from the early 70's I got in 75.
But the fork wrecked, so it got replaced with a Columbus steel fork. And repainted.
And the wheels, pedals, headset, seatpost, saddle, stem brakes and bars were changed along the way.
Now it has a new rear wheel...
So I'm not sure what it is now.

and I still need to post a photo of the whole thing...

Singlespeed or fixie?

x136 01-16-09 11:11 PM

That's a cog and a lockring up there. 'Tis fix-ed.

cccorlew 01-16-09 11:55 PM

Fixed, but a flip-flop hub just in case my knees and brain can't adjust.

Beaker 01-17-09 12:14 AM

Very nice pictures! Can't wait to see more of it

velogirls 01-17-09 01:05 AM

OH, Oh...don't say I didn't warn you:cry:

As promised, here's the bike. We got about 7 miles in, just to try it out. It's really weird. Riding is fine, stopping is different, even with the brakes. Downhill is interesting.

I'm pretty strong, and very fast, so I think I could ride it up and down any hill, as long as it's less then a 1% grade.

Yarrr! I ride mine flop. I can't take it over 10mph without the feeling of overwhelming dread when it's in flip mode. :backpedal:

This post cries for a ss/fixie ride SOOOOOOOOOON!!!

DiabloScott 01-19-09 09:51 PM

That IS freakin beautiful! Big honkin long touring wheelbase, nice and clean... just nice.

You guys want to ride in the city?

taxi777 01-19-09 09:53 PM

How bout through the city, bridge tiburon loop? pretty flat...couple of bumps is all...

JoelS 01-19-09 09:54 PM

I'm wanting a SS. When ever (or more like IF ever) I can afford a new bike, I'll convert my backup into a SS/FG similar to the one pictured.

Nice lookin bike!

Yessssss. Somewhere flatish would be good.
I'd have to air up the tires on my fixie though since I haven't ridden it in months.

Curtis, keep at the fixed side and soon you be able to do 150+ RPM no problem. Just learn to keep the legs somewhat loose.

Looks great, good job! You've even got the fixed-gear-OCP bug, with the matching brake housing, crank dust cap, straps, and even anodized toe cages. :)

Don't listen to this man!

Last time he promised a flat route around and through SF, my legs were sore for a week.

Only problem with learning the "fixed gear coast" is that when you instinctively try it on a freewheeled bike, it's really awkward there for a second. :P
