2009 California Triple Crown Stage Race
I know some of you guys are planning to do the Devil Mountain and Mt. Tam Doubles, so I thought this might be of interest...
Every year, the organizers of the California Triple Crown choose three specific doubles for a "stage race." That is, they record finishing times at all those doubles, and keep track of who has the fastest cumulative times.
This year, two of three stage race doubles are in Nor Cal: Devil Mountain and Mt. Tam. The other one is the Central Coast Double, which starts/ends in Paso Robles.
Meaning that this is about as convenient as it will ever be for Nor Cal riders to participate in the Stage Race, as they never pick three Nor Cal doubles or three So Cal doubles for the event.
Also, it means that even if you have no interest in doing the Central Coast Double, you should register sooner rather than later for Devil Mountain and Mt. Tam, as the stage race doubles tend to draw more entrants because riders come from all over the state, and there's a greater chance of them selling out.

That sounds cool. Do the stage race winners receive prizes?
Could be incentive to organize a big group with pacelining.

You get a nice plaque and a hearty handshake and a about 100 people sitting at the awards ceremony in Vacaville thinking "There is NFW I could do that". That is priceless!

The Triple Crown breakfast is actually pretty cool. I went in 2006 because if it's your first year of doing 3 doubles you get recognized and you get a water bottle. The top 3 finishers for the Stage Race get recognized and receive a plaque or something. The breakfast is put on by the Quackcyclists - the folks who also do DMD and Knoxville.
Anyone who has completed all three of the stage races can buy the jersey. I did Central Coast in 2007. It is a beautiful ride and very well supported. Please note though that it is 209 miles.
