TOC: Post Your Pro Cyclist Sightings

With all the teams in the area riding the local roads and previewing stage 1 and 2, I figure we'll all have a story or two. So, who did you see? Did Lance show up at the Cherry Pie? Who knows? No, really who knows?

I'll get things started, we saw a dude in a full Astana kit on a Astana Team Trek riding with a Tibco rider and a guy in a Tibco kit. I am guessing the guy in the Tibco kit is the Tibco CEO who sponsors the team. The Astana rider looked big...like a sprinter, but was in good shape.

UPDATE: This sighting was at the top of Kings. They might have gone down Tunitas, but I don't know. It was cold and didn't wait around.

A guy in my club saw Team BMC at the north end of Canada Road yesterday.

We know they are out there, share your sightings here.

No Lance or Garmin riders at Cherry Pie, just a few riders from Bissell, BMC, & OUCH.

I thought I saw Lance on Saturday, but I'm pretty sure it was just a guy in yellow and black!

It did make me wonder who's been spotted so far though...

Based on Allen Lim's (Garmin's PhD Physiologist/Coach) Twitter page, Garmin-Slipstream is going to be in Palo Alto for a few days. Tom Danielson's twitter page has them riding Bonny Dune today. Why in the world do i have to work today?

Funny this should come up, but I thought I saw a group of serious looking riders on Portola road last week. Unfortunately, I can't easily recall logos or names. I seem to remember red/white/black colours though, and they definitely weren't Peninsula Velo shirts...

Perhaps they were the real thing. It would make a change from greybeards

You'd think he could have gotten the Visitor's Center in the background so it didn't look so much like Mt. Hamilton or someplace.

Saw a helmetless Astana rider today on my ride home from work. He was going the opposite way on West Capital Ave in West Sacramento. Definitely not the place I would exect to see a pro rider. He was in full kit with the team bike and all. I was a bit star struck... even though I have no idea who he was.

Edit: I'm pretty sure it was this guy.....

Yup. Horner occasionally comes to Sactown to deal out the pain on the Tuesday night and Saturday morning rides.

No freaking kidding.

Then again, for all I know, I pass them () all the time. Beats me who any of them are.

Very cool!

I also saw someone on the causeway. Looked like BMC colors but he had a windbreaker on and he was hammering towards me too fast to get a good look. No positive ID on the kit. Dark helmet, dark bike, and a ferocious spin!

I am such a fan boy. There i was, on 580, headed for the 680 junction on Wednesday night. The moon, full and somehow in a perfect opening through the dark clouds highlighted a Garmin Chipotle team trailer. My heart quickened. I honked as I drove past it, stoked, but feeling pretty silly.

Channel 2 just said that Floyd Landis crashed in a training ride but is still going to race.

I can't believe they even covered the race.

I'm waiting for details. I was on the American River trail today tailing 5 members of team OUCH. I didn't think Floyd was in the group but still.

That's awesome to see pro cyclists on a MUP. Maybe a little weird too. I dunno.
