3/15 Santa Cruz Mountains - LONG (UPDATE: April 4th! See post #38)

OK... now with DST, no rain and DMD only like 6 weeks away, it's time we do the shake down ride.

http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...y-Training-SMC :wtf:

I know there won't be many that want to join in, but a few to keep us company would be nice

Let me know if you're in, and where you'd like to meet up along the ride.

EDIT: Rescheduled for Saturday 4/4/09!! See post #38 (page 2) for update.

BlastRadius 03-10-09 11:52 PM

A nice long ride would be nice but staying out that long makes wifey sad.

Hey I live at the edge of Los Gatos and would love to meet up with you. I am unfamiliar with bikely. Where exactly are you starting from?

San Mateo. Start/end.

Woodside is a good start/end point for South Bay people and still get most of the important parts of the ride in.

FYI: doing half this ride and doing the whole ride may lead to differences in pace ;)

uspspro 03-11-09 10:26 AM

Wow... No one else?!

Heh, for those who can't see Bikely it's around 158 miles with over 14,000 ft of climbing. If you start from Woodside, it's more like 130 with around 12000. I think..

ROJA 03-11-09 01:11 PM

Ha haha! Have fun and let us know how it goes.

Just goes to show that misery doesn't always love company! :D

silentben 03-11-09 02:35 PM

Still sorting out my weekend plans and whether I'll be riding at all let alone which day. I'll know more in a day or two. If I went I'd join you in Woodside.

uspspro 03-11-09 03:05 PM

Cool. I already taste the artichoke bread!

ericm979 03-11-09 03:21 PM

Too bad it's on a day when I already have a comittment.

Bostic 03-11-09 03:24 PM

What time are we starting this little shindig? I'll have to wake up fairly early to drive up from Sunnyvale.

uspspro 03-11-09 03:29 PM

I'm guessing like 7 am or something like that.

Maybe 6:30? what do you all think?

I'll be in SoCal that weekend ... going to the Fargo Hill challenge

If it were me, I'd start at 6 am.

kb5ql 03-12-09 02:16 AM

I have to wash my hair that day. Maybe next time.

dl33 03-12-09 10:48 AM

I'm thinking about this but going to have to see how to make the loop shorter. My limit is around 100.

Bostic 03-12-09 10:56 AM

Starting in either Woodside or somewhere along Skyline after OLH would trim off a fair amount of miles. Or begin from the park & ride at the base of Page Mill and Arastradero and ride up to meet at Skyline and the Alpine descent. You don't want to miss out on all the hills that occur after HW1 south.

I had thee same suggestion.

Park & Ride at the base of Page Mill and Arastradero would probably shave off the most miles while not cutting out much climbing at all.

Haha.. I almost want to do Page Mill since I am dreading the uphill trending roller part of Skyline between OLH and Alpine, but I need that training for DMD.

I think I am perming my hair that day. Definitely next time.

I had some knee pain on my commute today, most likely patellofemoral syndrome, I'm now in the process of scheduling a bike fit and maybe seeing a physical therapist to nip this in the bud. Anyway i'll be taking it sorta easy for a while so needless to say that disqualifies me from this ride!

Sorry to hear about your knee, Ben, there seems to be a lot of that going-on these days. :innocent:

Free plug for Lorri Lee Lown (velogirl) here. I did a bike fit with her, a couple of weeks back, and it was a positive experience: she tweaked a few things on the bike and gave me a few things to think about, technique-wise, which helped smooth-out my pedal stroke. :thumb:

I'll be flying home in the morning for a half-day at home in the middle of 2 long weeks of travel. Otherwise I'd join you for a leg of it.

Wave hi to the neighbor's alpacas as you go by. ;)

uspspro 03-13-09 02:35 PM

So only Ramon?

Am I missing anyone?

qpliu 03-13-09 02:56 PM

I'm considering joining from Davenport to the top of Alba.

That would be about 70 miles in plus a stop at Pescadero, so you'd hit Davenport sometime between noon and 1pm?

Marco:

I could possibly join up with you at Pescadero. I would go down the coast and climb up Bonny Doon with you, but take a shorter path to Hwy9 and Skyline. I want to keep my ride to 100 miles. That's enough punishment for one day for this wimp :o.

Can you call me when you start the OLH climb? I could leave my house at that point. I think that would get us to Pescadero at about the same time. I takes me about 1 hour to get to Pescadero.

Alan

Cool!

Sound's good. We will probably be there (base of OLH) at around 7:30-8:00 am.
