STP & wind

I have been reading on the STP threads that there could be a lot of headwind on the ride. To date, I have been able to find one site that maps current and forecasted wind speed and direction for sailors.

It is great for mapping the Portland, Columbia River area, plus the coastal areas of WA. It also maps the areas around Seattle & Tacoma. I haven't found any site that maps and forecasts winds along the STP route between Olympia and Longview. Anybody know of any sites that map this area?

Isn't this event still 3 months away? Seems a bit soon to be worrying about weather forecasts or else maybe I'm not fully understanding your request.

Nope, silentben, just interested in websites that give relevant information. NOAA has great data.

I guess "it depends" is the weather for STP. Hot or warm: Tail wind like last year. Bad weather also includes a headwind

The two times I've done it wind wasn't bad at all. A little near Longview where it's more exposed but otherwise not worth mentioning.

Of course I was blown all over the place today in 20 mph winds, so I might not be remembering it all that well...

I got the same wind yesterday Rushfan. You haven't got a lot of protection out in the flats. However...Seemed mild compared to Sunday. Very scary ride on the tandem.
Thanks to all for the STP input. Hopefully it will be great weather this year.

STP last year felt like a tailwind the entire day. It was a breeze. I remember getting frustrated with my slow-ass brother so I pedaled hard about 10 miles out from the lunch stop at Centralia averaging 26mph.

As for yesterday... Ugh! The "delta hills" were steep! I did the 23-mile river training ride and got dropped on all 4 sections. Had a hard time keeping 14mph when I was into the wind.
