I just found the listing for my stolen bike parts what next?

So on Monday I posted a cry thread about someone stealing my fizik arione and seat post. Today on SFfixed I saw my (with out any doubt) seat post for sale.

I figure this ****** stole the two planning to use them and then found out that it was a 31.6 seatpost and it wouldn't fit on his hipster bike, so he kept my saddle and is selling my seatpost. Then he made the assumption that because he jacked it from a road bike, he could sell it on a fixed forum undetected.

I called the university police and filed a theft report and gave them his phone number and email, they asked me for pics of the post and the gear on my bike and then they can "look into it"

I honestly want to call the guy arrange a meet up to buy it and beat the living **** out of him, which would make me no beter than him, although it would feel great.

Does anyone have any idea of what I should do here, I mean I lack faith in the police and I'd feel really bad if I snapped and hurt someone, especially if it was just some stupid hipster kid.

I just want my stuff back and for this guy to know what a dick he is, any creative suggestions?

Demonstrate the meaning of irony by beating the **** out of him with the seat post.

Campus Police are pretty worthless in my opinion. Get the real police involved. When you call the real police tell them what the saddle and post cost. If you just tell them the guy stole your seat, they probably are assuming $20 and won't do much.

Or show up with a buddy, when the guy hands you the stuff, tell him it was yours before he stole it and walk away. What's he going to do?

I was thinking of hitting him in the face with my U lock, I mean it's a cabon seat post and I want to make sure he feels the pain he caused me.

Report it, that's all you can do. And i know you won't like this answer, but it would make more sense to use a cheap bike that no one would want to steal if you are going to leave it parked some where vulnerable to theft. That's just me, but hope everything works out for yah.

Are both you and the seller at the same university? If one of you lives in the city, then call the real police instead of the campus police.

You don't want to do this, particularly if you're thinking about using your real checks, because you'll also get into trouble.

In all seriousness, I'd meet him, get the post in my hands to "check it", then confront him about it, tell him you're taking it back. If you go to his house to get it, tell him you want your saddle back too. I wouldn't be physical with the guy unless he tried to be physical with me. I'd probably bring one of my larger friends with me to the 'meet' just to help the guy avoid trying to fight.

I actually did something similar a few years ago - somebody hit my wife's car in the parking lot of our apartment and then parked their car a few spaces away. It had a for sale sign in the window, so I called, said I wanted to meet them to look at their car. I met them a few hours later, brought my wife's car, confronted them and got their information to fix it. They knew they were caught, appreciated that I didn't involve the police, and made it right.

Well all the bad check, hitting with a u-lock was just anger and nothing I'd actually do... Stripes are you the one I have to thank for linking this thread on SFF?, if so I owe you major gratitude because today I got my stuff back. Here's the kid that stole it:

I took his picture when he brought it back to me and I plan on plastering it and his phone # all over craigslist

It wasn't me who posted the thread, it was another guy. I would have done it if nobody else had, though. I hope those kids learned their lesson. I don't think they know what it's like to get your stuff stolen.

I almost forgot I owe a HUGE I mean like super-mega-big-ass thank you to the mod's on the SF fixed forums, they went detective status and not only did some computer hax0r searching to piece this all together but they sweated, and broke, the kid who posted my seat post for sale via PM's on the forums.

I kept wondering where the hell karma was in all of this because I don't steal stuff, cheat, hurt small animals or even people. But then today a handful of strangers decided to go out of their way to get my stolen gear back... yup

Yeah, the sffixed mods did some really good work. They're a great group of mods, for sure.

I don't know which mods helped you out but many of the originators of sffixed started here in the BF SS/FG sub-forum.

Is the the "Before photo," what about the "After" photo after you hit him with your seat post

Glad you got your stuff back, the odds were not in your favor.

I'm thinking the principal fo Lincon High in SF might be interested in this photo. I mean, the dipsh*t shows up in his high school sweatshirt? This is what is know in legal circles as being "dumber than the law allows."

You are assuming too much councellor - he might have stolen that sweatshirt too.
