So I figured the only way to get back on the bike is to sign up for an event and train for it. I plan to pay way in advance hoping that will motivate me since I hate losing money. I am planning to do the Harvest metric ride in October. Is anyone else doing that event? Which event(s) do you have your eye on?

Tour of Napa century in August
Knoxville Double in Sept.
Death Valley Double in October.

I don't know anyone else doing DV, so if it's lonely desert for 200 miles I hope to at least have a good peyote-ish spirit voyage of isolation/dehydration.

I'm not doing any of those types of rides, though there is a possibility that I'll do Levi's Grand Fondo (sp?). But it's remote.

I just plan rides for the weekend and ride some during the week to stay in something resembling a fit state.

I was thinking about the doubles while I was climbing Carson pass. I was trying to figure out how in the world I'd cover 200 miles in a day, when I was at mile 110 8:45 or so into the ride.

Sure, there's less climbing, but not that much less. I still haven't figured it out.

In October I'll be hurting for sunlight though. Should be a great Sunrise->Sunset with dark for a few hours on both sides type of ride.

I'm riding in the Tour de Peninsula on August 2, 2009. Their longest route is a metric century. The last TdP attracted 2000+ riders and the routes had plenty of rest stops. This was a lot of fun.

Doing Tour of Napa on 8/16 (only the 35 miler with my wife and sis-in-law). I'd love to do Foxy's but can't find any registration info on this year's ride.

The website for Foxy's says registation will open in late August.

I'm giving seriou thought to going for the 100mi version of this. With any luck, I'll come to my senses before that. It's been a few years since I managed a full century . . . . .

I'll probably go for the Tour of Napa 100k - it gets pretty hot there in August, and Ink Grade about killed me couple years ago, but it is beautiful country and a well-run ride.

Hey, when did they add a semi-serious, Metric Century route to this? I rode this a couple times back in the late 1990s, and the longest route was 30 pretty darned easy miles. I think I might just do this one, since it starts only a couple miles from my front door and covers some of the roads I ride on Sundays anyway.

My wife and I will be doing the 100k Tour of Napa Valley. It will the first organized ride for the both of us. Hopefully my wife will be able to make it over the hills, she's not a quitter fortunately. We'll be riding the next few weekends to get ready.

Wolfpack from NC is coming in to do this ride, so we're doing it as well. Any NorCal-ers want to have a pre-ride par-tay at Chez Cgallagh/RR? I'll try not to break a rib this year.

I did the 100k Tour of Napa in 2007. It was hot but luckily I was in way better shape so I was able to make it up Ink Grade. If I do it this year in the shape I'm in, I'd have to dismount and catch my breath. Guess I'll be seeing you folks at the start. We'll probably get on our bikes right at 8AM for the 35 miler..

I'll be out there too. Say hi as you go by. I'll be in my Davis Double jersey on a green Trek 520.

I find doing doubles much more easy than Death Ride. I don't climb well so DR is just a slog for me. But if the climbing is 8000 feet or less per 100 miles I seem to be able to go forever with very short breaks and a rolling average of about 14 mph.

I'm doing at least 5 more centuries, one for each remaining month in 2009. Most of these will be self-supported.

I just looked up and realized I need to sign up for this still!! I will probably try the metric although it could end up very badly as I'm still in rather poor shape considering the time of the season.

Eitherway I plan on being there though, I like the idea that it benefits the parks foundation, and bicycle sunday.. both good causes in my opinion, especially the parks, they'll need all the help they can get going forward.

I was at the last TdP and it was a little scary at times with all of the mixed ability around, however that also made it fun
