kings mtn vs calaveras

just wondering how much harder kings mtn is to calaveras rd?

is it steeper or just longer with similar gradient?

oh btw, i've done calaveras coming from the pleasanton side but haven't from the milpitas side.

thanks!

Looks like Kings is pretty similar to the climb from the direction of Piedmont Road, but longer. Looks steeper than the opposite direction (if that's what you meant?)

King's Mountain is a lot harder than Calaveras from the Sunol side (that's the back half of Beaker's graph, going down as you go to the right). Steeper and longer - Calaveras goes up maybe 600 feet to the false summit, while King's Mountain is over 1500 feet IIRC. That shouldn't keep you from trying, though!

I think that graph is deceptive. I don't have gradient data handy, but to my legs, Calaveras is a very gentle climb (from the Sunol side). Kings is noticeably steeper.

Climbing Calaveras from Milpitas, you do get one short steep pitch near the top. The rest of the climb is pretty easy. Kings Mountain is a generally steady grade all the way to the top.
