Shout out for Sierra Ski and Cycle Works, South Lake Tahoe

A couple of weeks ago I drove up to Tahoe, carried my bike in the car. As I was loading it, I noticed the rear wheel was terribly out of true. Didn't remember hitting anything or doing anything unusual, so I just loaded up the bike and decided to take care of it when I got up there.

Ended up bringing the wheel into Sierra Ski and Cycle Works. This was my Mavic Open Pro, about 4 years old. Mechanic found that under the label on the rim, not immediately visible, the aluminum had split, fractured, and twisted. Again, I have no idea when or how this happened, as I'd been riding without any brake rub as recently as 2 days before my trip.

Anyway he happened to have another Open Pro rim in stock. Offered to build up a new wheel. Built it up, using my old spokes, in about 3 hours!! I'm sure if I'd brought it in to an LBS in the Bay Area, it would have been at least a week wait!

So what could have been a ruined trip was saved. The price was so reasonable (I'm embarrassed to say how much) that it's almost worth driving to Tahoe for my wheels in the future.

So thank you to Sierra Ski & Cycle for exceptionally good service for a walk-in, never before seen, customer.

Just thought everyone would want to hear a word of praise about a bike shop instead of a complaint for a change. Thanks for reading.

Excellent service indeed. I'll keep them in mind.

I must say I'm pretty impressed with the Trek Store of Omaha.
I rebuilt my Powertap wheels (front and rear) but needed a shop to tension and true them on a stand and they did it by the next day (a Friday even). All the other shops I called needed until mid-week this week.
