Thanks rydaddy for the lift. I was sluggish at the start - 99% of the time I am asleep at this hour. But around mile 2 you came past with a posse in tow and Chris and I jumped in with the group which largely carried me to the first rest stop, 36 miles in 2 hours.
I rode the double on this wheel, which I guess is toast but has been functioning like this for some time.

But seriously congrats on completing the ride

It is the rear wheel. And yes, I did know it was like this at the beginning of the ride. I noticed it a few days earlier while cleaning, and then realized I had seen it before so knew that it had been functioning like this for awhile. I know I may be a bit reckless or not careful with things like this. But I am going to quit while I am ahead and have new wheels very soon.

As for the wheel, I can't see the photo (internet filter) but I'm guessing you have a cracked rim at the eyelet. What kind of rim is it? It's possible to just buy a replacement rim and move all the spokes over. Of course, I'm always looking for an excuse to buy something new so this is a good reason for you to 'upgrade'.

I was looking around at new wheels but with my legendary frugality, my next wheelset may be a "downgrade" so maybe I should consider the replacement. Or maybe I'll do both, so I have an extra set of wheels for any future emergencies. Thanks for the suggestion.

The Williams 19s and 30s seem pretty popular right now too.

Damn, Chrisoco ... I think that was worse than my rim that I replaced. You really like living on the edge, and you rode that thing 200 miles and 14,000 feet climbing? You crazy man!

There was a 30 mile stretch of seriously rough roads, too. If I'd remembered his rim was in this shape I would have not ridden behind him.

Wow! I feel like a bum for only doing two doubles this year... The more ride reports I see the more I don't want to do them anymore. It's such a commitment. Good job guys.

My Knoxville Double was difficult but do-able. Felt great at first, got lost, got back on course thanks to a Quack SAG spotting us. Nipple dropped off my Camelback spraying Perpetuem and Hammer Gel Raspberry all over my legs, the bike, the route sheet, etc. Messy!
Suffered up the Knoxville Grade, ate a good lunch, suffered up Loch Lomand, got leg cramps (first time ever), made it to the finish in 18 Hours total time after taking long stops at the checkpoints.
Overall a great ride, tougher than usual for me (my 6th Knoxville double), the heat did me in, plus riding too fast for the first century. An educational experience! Felt fine the next day at the Quack breakfast.
Seven doubles down for 2009, three to go (Hemet, Bass Lake, Fall Solvang).
Good to meet PrincessZippy at Checkpoint 2A!
