Tour of California 2010 Viewing

The tour is coming to a city near you ... so who's viewing it, and where are you going to view it? I'm actually taking the week off to watch a few of the stages, but not sure where to watch it yet.

I was going to have the perfect place to view from (home) but it turns out I will be in Brazil on a business trip instead.

My club has a regular tuesday ride (western wheelers)...on the day the sf-sc stage happens, we are going to divert our ride to head up 84 a bit to watch the race go by.

I'll definitely be at the Capitol for the Stage 1 finish. I may also try to see them climb out of the American River Canyon earlier in the stage. And I'm hoping to get the day off on Wednesday to drive down to Modesto and see that finish. They're staging a crit on the finishing circuit before the peleton arrives, so I may try to do that too.

Wed. on Sierra Rd. will be my best chance. I'd like to be at Tunitas on Tue., but I think I have a conflict that day.

I'm just wondering how insane the mountain stage finish at Big Bear will be.

I'm taking the week off to follow the whole thing.
Working on my plans.
Is the parking up Sierra?
Or do you park at the bottom somewhere?

No parking on Sierra - they close the road way early. Bikes and pedestrians only.

This year I'm going to Bonny Doon - last KOM of Stage 3... I'll be the crazy schloogie with the giant California Flag trying to get on TV.

My dad and I are watching stage 4 at the corner of 1st Street and South Livermore.
Then after the peleton goes around that tight turn, we will walk about 10 steps into Strizzis Italian restaraunt for our 1pm lunch reservation.

Not the epic mountain top viewing one might wish for, but I am very lucky to have a 73 year old father who follows racing and wants me to take him to see the race. This is the 2nd year he has watched it with me. He uses a cane now and is slowing down a lot but I am blessed to have him in my life, and to have him take such an interest in our great sport.

Well worth using a vacation day.

Going to spend the day in Santa Cruz and catch the finish of stage 3...sadly its the only day off I have. Actually live really close to Modesto and would have gone there to see the end of the next stage but I have to work.

I will be at the same spot as last year on top of Calaveras Road before it goes down toward Sunol.
I arrived way early last year (one hour before they closed the road), parking was easy. We were only about 20-30 folks at the location yet it was a perfect setting for pictures and it was early enough in the stage that the pace allowed for enjoying the riders more than a few seconds. The awful weather probably had something to do with the pace.

Brazil sounds nice.
I'm leaving to NY the 19th. Regretting my plans, would rather stay home and watch versus, maybe make it out to a couple of the stages. Bummed.

I'll be watching the Stage 1 finish from de Vere's pub on 15th/L in Sacramento. Looking forward to riding down there and hanging out - last year we had a blast.

Ooh, I did that 2 years ago, very interesting! One rider quite cooperative, the other not so much so. Sadly, they won't permit female chaperones any more, I believe.

Hoping my business trip to TEXAS gets delayed by a couple days. Maybe 50-50 right now. If not, I'll miss Bonny Doon, maybe go up to Sacramento on Sunday.

On Monday I am going to catch the finish in Santa Rosa.

On Tuesday I am planning on parking at Huddard (Unless I find abundant parking in Woodside), and riding to the top. Catch the KOM action - then sprint to the 84 climb finish. I might be able to make it. What will the crowds be like? How many cars will be dashing off the same way? Then I can swoop down 84.

Sunday at the circuit in Sacramento so I can catch the Sacramento Grand Prix (my money is on Rahsaan Bahati) and the ToC women's crit. Also catching the finish of stage 4 on Wednesday in Modesto. I have the day off for a dentist appointment, oh so conveniently sheduled mid morning so I don't really see the point in going into work, since it's just as much of a pain to miss a full day as it is a half.

I haven't decided where to watch on Sunday. All I know for sure is I'm going to get in a morning ride. Anyone interested?

Ugh I'm so mad my last final is Monday morning so I can't catch stage 1 on Sunday (studying). I'm thinking about doing the crit in Modesto on Wednesday and catching the finish later in the afternoon.
