Davis Double Saturday Morning Meet Ups

I am starting this thread to make it easier for Bike Forums folks to make connections and start out in groups together.

These are the vital statistics for Davis on Saturday May 15th
Temps will vary between the 40's in the AM and about 80 in the PM

Begin civil twilight 5:25 AM (Dawn)
Sunrise 5:55 AM

Sunset 8:12 PM
End civil twilight 8:42 PM (Full Darkness)

Cccorlew and I are meeting at little before 4:00 AM at the Veterans Center, where the sidewalk up to the front door meets the parking lot... look for us there for a 4:00 AM start.
We are starting early with lights to be done and in before dark.

We welcome company in our Early Bird group.

As other groups form up, we will look for you on the road later in the day, probably as you pass us

I will be leaving home around 3am, registration opens at 4:15, so I planning to start at around 4:20-4:30.

Unless I drive to Davis to register and back home Friday evening. There no campsite in Davis.

Mon ami!

I have a room with 2 queen beds at the Super 8 in Dixon for Friday night. It is just 10 - 15 minutes from Davis.
Drive up Friday night to register and then use my spare bed. We can get up and put both our bikes in my mini-van for the short Saturday morning hop up the highway to Davis and then you can start with cccorlew and me.

Sound like a plan?

Ygduf, dl33, Bostic, and I are staying at the Motel 6 which is 4 1/2 miles from the ride start. I think we were going to go lightless so maybe roll from the hotel at right at the start of civil twilight at 5:25? This should put us at the "official" start at 5:40am.

The web page says "Start time is between 5:15 & 5:45 a.m." Do they enforce the 5:45am cutoff? I would feel a bit uneasy about planning to get to the start with just 5 minutes to spare.

Check out the rider packet: https://www.davisbikeclub.org/annual_...acket.pdf/view

They use the words "must be on the course no later than 5:45 AM" a few times. Sounds like they are serious.

A good morning TT will get the legs warm. That or cheating twilight by 5 minutes. Also, if we reg. Friday evening it should be a quick start... I really don't want to drive 4 miles to the start. That would take longer than riding.

"COURSE CLOSING TIME: All riders must be off the course and checked in at Start/Finish no later than 1 a.m."

Ah, thanks. I had actually read through the rider packet before but couldn't find it on their website today. I guess it's a top secret link that only gets sent out in the (easy to skim over) registration email from active.com

I'm good with cheating twilight. If we plan for 5:15 and roll at 5:20 we should be fine.

Jeezzz. You fast guys impress me. A lot.
Even with the 4AM start I'll be rolling in really close to dark. At least that's what happened the last two years.
Maybe with the temps 20 degrees cooler It'll be just a tiny bit quicker, but I don't think much.

Say hello as you roll past.

Tricia (MyLilPony) and I are doing the dinner thing at registration.
We'll be there as soon as I can drag her away from her school/work obligations.
Look for us. I'll be the guy with the fearful look on his face. She'll be the cute one with no worries because she isn't doing a double the next morning.

I'm staying at Motel 6 also. I haven't figured out what time I'm leaving yet, I'll see how I feel after a week of recovery from doing the CCD.

The question is, if the temperatures do not reach the triple digits, is it still the Davis Double?

Just kidding. Have a good one, all.

I think we're starting about 5:00 AM, or at least we're meeting then, probably start a bit after 5:00AM, but still in the dark. So far it's Lisa and her husband Tony, a few friends of theirs that I don't know, Linda Adams, Keith Christensen and myself.

I'll probably be wearing my yellow OC Rebel Rider jersey w/yellow arm warmers. Have run into a lot of problems trying to gear-down my SRAM Ti GT (the one I rode on the Hemet double), so may be back on the Calfee for Davis.

No kidding. The year I take a pass it's only expected to hit 80-85... What gives?

Have fun out there. For all you first-timers... You will fully understand the meaning of the word "resurrection" after Saturday.

As of Wed night, the National weather service is saying our pre-dawn temp might be as high as 54! That'll make dressing easier.

It's not practical for me to drive out to Davis the eve before to register, so I'll be starting after the 4:15am registration opens. I've been lurking since the Solvang Double signups, and I'd like to tag along with groups if it makes the ride go easier (my goal is to finish, preferably in daylight). I'll probably skip the first rest stops and may catch up with the 4am group.

I shouldn't be hard to recognize though; I'll be on a white recumbent with a day-glo orange seat bag and a funky Camelbak hands-free water bottle contraption on the front.

I have settled the all important which Jersey question for me on Saturday.
Vintage, race cut, Slipstream Chipotle 2008 Jersey
Damn pleased I can fit into my race cut and I like the Felt name on it since I ride a Felt Bike.
This was from back when they were a domestic pro team with no big names.

I will be wearing a blue Alaska jersey, number 767, titanium bike with yellow tires. Haven't decided between 4am and 5am start time. This is my first double, so the goal is to finish, preferably before dark. Will be looking for you on the course.
