Saturday Ride 6/26. SW Peninsula

Meeting at Peet's at Foothill & Holmstead 8:30. Roll-out no later than 8:45am.

Route is here: https://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=146972

Tough ride with a lot of good climbs/descents. Regroups at the tops of climbs, but we hope to keep them short and the pace of the group looks right now to be moderately-quick.

Fair warning: I may not chat the entire ride.

So far we have:

me
silentben
bosticman
bogdan

ps. DR jerseys, wear-em if you've got-em.

At the risk of lowering the pace, i'll join you guys for this ride. Surprised you didn't round it up to 10K feet of climbing !

There's the result. Hard ride. We lost Bassem somewhere out there. :/ Hope he made it home alright!

Alba was tough, but I was distracted by trying to pace Ben. Like I predicted, took 2nd on it on Strava, with 1 dude about 6 minutes ahead. Funny how predictable that is.

Zayante was less tough this time as I wasn't bonked. Did run out of water on 35, but made it to the firestation by 9 before the headache was too bad. Close call. Got home, was 7lbs lighter than when I left this morning. I sweat too much.

It was a fun ride, thanks for waiting for me on many occasions. I'm definitely in a different league from you guys.
I was so close to the century mark so i decided to turn the ride into a century. Ended up with 101 miles with 11,408ft climb 13.1 avg speed (pretty slow, i know)
.
The Garmin gets lost when the routes crisscross (which is what happened when we came down Empire Grade), it kept telling me to take a left on Felton-Empire (and skip that loop). So it took me a little while to figure which is the right direction to go.
Ofcourse it didn't help the shoddy AT&T service (or complete lack of a signal).
Overall, it was a truly enjoyable ride, really enjoyed the route (some of these roads i've never been on before).
Kudos to you and to Ben for picking such a beautiful route.

The whole loop at the bottom of the route was new to me. That section of Empire Grade was a blast and Smith Grade and Ice Cream Grade were nice pretty. Kind of weird riding through all the scorched trees on Martin though. And it was interesting to pass the fire station halfway along right in the middle of it all

I didn't eat enough and started getting bonky on Zayante. It was pretty bad. I got lightheaded and it felt like all the muscles in my body had turned into limp noodles. As soon as I realized what was going on I drank half a bottle of perpetuem and all the gel I had left. That helped but I still felt pretty weak all the way up Skyline and to the Saratoga Gap. I drank two sodas at the fire station there and they really hit the spot

Then I had a fun descent of Hwy 9 and felt pretty good on the final 6-7 flat miles.

I plotted my course out and got 103.5 miles but that didn't include chasing down ahmose in Boulder Creek. I logged somewhere between 9400 and 10100' of climbing depending on if you believe my watch or bikeroutetoaster.com

Thanks all for coming out

Thanks for coming out. And you did really well just to complete the ride. It was far from an easy route.
