Buying a used bike: Expert opinion requested
I know nothing about bikes but since my car broke down I'm looking for a road bike to get me around Berkeley (In addition to using public transit). Mostly for short 1 mile, 1-way trips to save some time. At most I probably will probably go 5 miles to get to the Berkeley marina.
Anyways, is this a deal or not?

Or anyone selling a bike in the $200 range? I definitely want a road bike, and like the idea of ss, but am not sure if I'll get annoyed with it after a while.

I wouldn't pay more than $120 for that bike and that may be too much.
If you go single speed, get both front and rear brakes.
Consider this.

MSRP for this is $290

I've got a 58cm frame set that needs to be built up. Probably have enough parts to do it, as well.

Yeah, you probably will. Get a used bike with gears. It'll help when you hit the Berkeley hills.
Also, check out the new Berkeley Bike Station (Shattuck) for storing your bike while on BART. I use it every weekday.

Thanks Guys!
Blast, I'll consider those bikes! May be a little more than I wanted to spend for a starter road bike, but the comfort of knowing it's a NEW bike may be worth it.
Kind of liked this one as well.

Boss, I'm very bicycle ********. If you get it up and running, how much would you sell it for?
PowPow, at the moment I really don't see riding it anywhere besides university, san pablo, and UC area. Thanks for heads up on the station. I walked by it the other day and was curious about it.
