Anyone know of a used bike store in the Bay Area?

Been looking on Craigslist for a while now... nothing caught my eye yet...

Looking for a cheap old/used road bike to ride around on Campus... something I can leave locked up and not really worry about... About a 5 mile commute.

So any kind of store around the Bay Area that fits this?

Thanks!

What part of the Bay Area?

And which "campus"? Stanford? Berkeley? Google? VA Medical Center?

UC Davis, the preying zones of bike thief.

Pref somewhere near Walnut Creek, but I'm willing to travel to find a cheap bike... I just want something that I won't exactly beat myself about getting stolen if I'm unlucky enough for it to happen to.

I really only know of Performance, a few local shops in Danville/Alamo, but not much else around. The place I used to go to in Martinez closed =\.

I don't know how cheap you mean, but Cycles of Change in Alameda has a ton of bikes, mostly donated, that they fix up and sell.

The Pedaler sells some used bikes that they get as trade-in's. Prices are decent. http://www.theped.com/

There are several places in Davis actually.. don't remember their names but I recall seeing 2 shops loaded up with nothing but old used bikes. One was near the 7-11 on L. The other was right downtown near the BofA.

The one spotted in Davis near the 7-11 on L may have been the Davis Bike Collective http://daviswiki.org/Davis_Bike_Collective . This is run by the same people who are trying to bring bicycling back to Davis. It would be nice to see Davis return to its former glory.

You reminded me of an old Ansel Adams photo I have had on my computer for ages...

Thing I love about the picture is how many bike locks there are..

You should consider 90s specialized mountain bikes. They can be had for fairly cheap and they are always listed on C-list. Here's one for $100: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/bik/1943016813.html.

Don't know what you consider "cheap" but $100 isn't that bad for what you get.
