where to buy a bike?

I'm looking for a road bike (potentially a hybrid since money is short right now) but I have no idea where to go. I don't trust Target or Walmart and specialized stores are way out of my price range.

I want at least 21 speeds, light and good quality frame. I will settle for average components. I can upgrade those as I go when I have some extra money. I will use it mainly for commuting to school, but long distance rides too. My school is on a hill and the road is pretty crappy so I don't want to die, obviously.

But money is the biggest thing right now... I'm super poor

Where should I go?

TIA!

I really don't want a used one... I've had a bad experience before and I don't want to go there again.

The Bicycle Shop on Mission is a neat little shop. Very commuting oriented. New and used bikes available. I don't know what their prices are like on full bikes, but the brakeset and rear derailleur I picked up from there were fairly priced.

I've never been there, but Sprockets is about a block or two away, as well.

I would go to a local bike shop, you will pay a little more cash up front, but they will help you to find a bike that fits you properly and will serve your needs. In the long run, you will be way ahead.
