UPDATE!
I found Pete's magenta Klein through a lost and found posting on Craigslist.. I posted the link on his Facebook acct, so only him/friends could read it (Bikeforums is a public forum).
BUT... it's cool now since it has been confirmed and Pete is picking it up today

Yeah, that was the weirdest thing I've ever seen. I was just walking up some backstreet in Chinatown, and there it was, propped up on its back wheel against a break in the wall. I did a double-take on it and saw that it was not locked. I was worried that I was "recovering" a bait-bike and about to get a rushing tackle.
Pete, you've got some good friends, I got two notices overnight that it was yours. Good luck on your other bikes & stuff. And if not, "ride what ya got". It was a little difficult to give that nice Klein back

Pete said that he borrowed some headset spacers off of the Klein for his new build, so the bars were still loose on the steerer tube. So the bike was pretty much unridable I would think, and the thief probably just dumped it there.

Actually one down, two to go...Cathy's Klein and Taxi bike. When I got my Klein, Cathy's Bento bag was with it...Kind of sad like Her bike was crying out to be saved. As soon as Marco sent me a text this morning I had the bike back within a half hour! I almost sold the Klein a while back in one of my insane moments but, I think it really belongs to me so, I'll be keeping it for a long time.
I was given a bag with the bike that had property from all over the place. This guy was definitely busy. Stuff from LA, to Stockton and all around the city. Forgot to mention the guy cut himself on a knife and the Cops took the DNA sample...waiting to hear back.

joeykork...infinite thanks for finding that and it's so cool, I didn't realize your Bike Forums alumni. I hope your Job search is successful and let me know if you land something here...I'll help you get an apartment through my company and give you a super referral.
There's a strange quirky underlying cosmic theme to all this but, then it could just be fruition of modern networking that gives it a somewhat spiritual overlay. I think it was really odd yesterday that when I got to the top of San Bruno Mountain on my new one speed bike I kind of just made a decision to let go of it all and move on from my anger. It was then I got a text from Marco saying He and Ruth were planning on lunch at the "Velo Rouge". I time trialled it over there and had a really wonderful time hanging out with them and riding after. Then I get that text from Marco this morning!... Weird! Marco & Ruth got a free home cook meal coming to them.

Maybe I should put these on all my bikes from now on...Nobody would even think of stealing them let alone try to ride one.

Holy cow, first the Giants win the world series now this? Awesome Pete, and huge kudos to Marco. Fingers crossed for Cathy's Klein.

Excellent that you got one of the bikes back. I was "kinda" hoping that someone had been seen riding it and you had to replace some front spokes.

OMG Pete!! I hate to read these things. More so when it's someone that has inspired me to ride like you have. I hope the remaining two bikes find their way back to their rightful home!

Let's see... Trek has no wheels, Raleigh has no pedals or brakes, fixed gear has no frame... crap, the Vitus is rideable! I should pull the non-drive crankarm off.

But then you'd still be at risk from some Capt. Ahab wannabe.

Just finally catching up and saw this...Pete, so sorry to hear about the theft, though I'm really glad that you were able to recover one.

Did you get a Spinergy as a bonus for knocking the thief out?

'zit like this?
If so, hang it on the wall as a trophy, but I'd advise against using it. Hell, I don't even think I'd use it, even ironically.
