I had a rock create a tiny rip in my sidewall coming down from the summit at sunset a couple weeks ago. Three flat tires later (in retrospect I got chilled and stopped thinking). I had to call my wife to get me, and of course the rangers closed the gates early. By the time she got through to the rangers I was in not in a good place. Another 30 minutes and I probably would have been taking a trip to the hospital. As it stands I had to spend 45 minutes in a hot shower before my senses came back.

So, stay out of the park after dark in the winter. And if you must, make sure you are riding with a friend.

Now, riding before dawn has never been a problem for me. But at least in that case the rangers have had their morning coffee when they see you
