2011 Waves to Wine

An event from National Multiple Sclerosis Society:

Bike MS: Waves to Wine Ride

Sept 17-18, 2011 Two day bike event

Welcome to the Bike MS: Waves to Wine Ride- we hope you'll join us on September 17th and 18th, 2011 for the most picturesque, albeit challenging, Bike MS Ride in the country! This is a full-supported 2-day bike event, so all you have to worry about is riding from the start to the finish each day we'll take care of the rest!

Day 1: Starting in SF, heading over the Golden Gate Bridge, out HWY 1 to Stinson Beach then heading to Rohnert Park for the overnight - approx. 75 miles. There will also be a 100 mile option that day for those real go-getters in the bunch. Likewise, there will also be a shorter option for Day 1 starting and finishing from Rohnert Park, CA.. This day will be very hilly and challenging, but also very gratifying!

Day 2: Heading from Rohnert Park to West County up to Healdsburg, winding through some great rural areas and wineries in 75 miles. This day is a much flatter day than Day 1. We also have a 50 mile option.

There will be rest stops approximately every 12 miles along with a lunch stop and post-ride dinner both days, so you will have plenty of liquids and food to keep you going all day long. There will also be other special surprises along the course to keep you going through some of those especially challenging parts of the route.

The overnight is quite a festival of great food, great music, and wine and beer from our generous sponsors. It'll be a chance for you to share recaps of your day out on the course and to just hang out with your fellow riders. Then off to bed to rest up for the follow day's ride.
DATE & TIME:
Sept 17-18, 2011 Two day bike event

LOCATION:
San Francisco to Healdsburg
San Francisco, CA 94103

COST & REGISTRATION:
$35 until May 31st, $50 until July 29th, $65 until Sept 17th with a $350 minimum fundraising

I'm actually thinking of doing this year...I can't really afford to do the AIDS Lifecycle. It's become financially and a logistical impossibility for me. I did the Wine to Waves back in 1985 with Connie Carpenter and Davis Phinney. It was great because it was the first really long ride I'd ever been on. Davis and Connie along with some other Pros were totally approachable and I really discovered my love for cycling and California in general. I had been one year clean & sober and It was an awesome reward to myself and a tribute to my Sister who has since passed on from MS. I would love to do this for my nieces in memory of Her and also to renew my love of cycling. The minimum fund raising is considerably less than the AIDS Ride which would be easier to do.

I did this last year, and the organizers did a great job with rest stops, registration, camp site, etc. Weather was a little hot, but I guess they can't control everything

It will be even BETTER this. I heard they are moving back to Sonoma Mt. Village this year. MUCH nicer than where the overnight was last year. I was disappointed with last years overnight spot. NOT that it wasn't nice, it's just that SMV is MUCH nicer. It is a GREAT ride, GREAT support, GREAT cause. This will be my 4th year. ENJOY
