Where to ride in San Francisco

I've just moved to San Francisco from Australia and am wondering where to find regular group rides, shop rides or a club to join. I'm mostly into road riding, anything 80-120km for a typical saruday morning ride or more if i'm feeling adventurous but have a cross bike (Specialized Tricross) and am interested in doing some off road riding while i'm here too.

Also, if anyone lives in SF is interested in going for a ride, let me know!

There are some great roads just north of SF in Marin. I think there are some regular rides that start at Java Hut in San Rafael on weekends.

Thanks Blast, i'm here for a 12 month placement with work, so plenty of time to get out and see the place by bike. I'll hopefully take some longer tours as well so will look for routes for those later on. For the moment i just want to get out for some weekend rides and get some miles into the legs.

I had a quick trip out to marin headlands when i first arrived (between christmas and new years), made it up Conzelman to the lookout. I don't have a car here so sarting from San Rafael is a bit out of the way, though from the looks of google maps there's some good roads out that way. I haven't seen any groups in the city so i guess most people drive out of town and ride from there. Are there any regular rides which start from the city, or at least from the GG bridge or something like that?

There's the Roaster's Ride that starts at the Southern side of the GG Bridge on Saturday mornings. It's a large group of racers and the pace is pretty fast once they get out of town past Fairfax.

Well, looks like it will be the Sports basement ride this weekend to check it out. Might have a look at the Roasters ride in a couple of weeks if i can find a map of the route, or maybe i'll just hope i'm not the first to get dropped

paradise loop. I love this ride. I'm from Central California and this ride is just as good as the hill rides here.

Take the train or drive down to San Jose and hit Mt. Hamilton sometime. There's plenty of great riding to the south, too.

Happy Australia Day, BTW. I would pass you a TimTam, but it's a bit far from here at Stanford.
