Any recommendations for beginner riding groups?

Getting back on the bike after way too long (as in yeaarrrrsssss) and need some motivation and perhaps a few guys to ride with. Not a hard core cycling team as I'm only looking for 30-40km jaunts at mod speed for now and work my cardio, endurance and hill climbing skills. And increase the challenges as I get stronger. Any groups or guys in Danville/San Ramon/Alamo area looking for same? Or can recommend such groups?

Wow, your first post and no responses. You deserve at least a Hello, and Welcome to Bike Forums.
So please accept my welcome to this forum.

I have found a lot of great people to ride with here. I am not a member of any team or club but I can think of a dozen people I ride with regularly that I met here.

I suggest you watch the Northern California forum for posted rides that sound do-able to you. If they are too long for you at this point in your come back you can always join for just a portion of the ride.

Good luck, keep riding. Welcome back.

Wrong side of the bay, but these people have some nice casual group bicycle rides:

Contact your LBS's to see if there are any local ride groups that meet your criteria. There are several in the Sacramento Area that cater to a range of riders from newbies to hardcore racers. Distances can range from a flat 8 miles at 8-10 average speed to 100 plus miles. They have multiple rides scheduled throughout the week. I'm sure you can find something like that in the Danville area.
Good luck and welcome to the forums.

I ride with a group of people that usually meet at the Walnut Creek Park and Ride as well as the Grizzly Peak Cyclists. One of them has a meetup page.

Missed the post.

Hey - I live in San Ramon and would be up for some rides. I usually end up at the Danville Peet's at some point during my rides, anyway.

Drop me a PM and let's talk.

If you are looking for a group to ride with check out the local "touring" clubs. I put that in quotes because some of them are fast, but the rides are usually organized so the fast guys can do their own thing.

When I was getting started many years ago the Valley Spokesmen had good beginner rides.

The crazy thing in BF that only newbies (like myself) can understand is that newbies are not allowed to PM until their posts reaches 50:-)

Start posting stuff like "me, too", and "that's cool". You'll hit 50 in no time.

Checkout Bikecal.com for some club rides at different level. Most clubs do take guest riders if you're not a member.

I'm a bit north and east of you guys, but I'd love to join in whatever you set up. I'm in the same boat as the OP. Great new bike, not so great old legs...
