Central Coast Double
A bit more climbing than Davis, but I'm a bit stronger than last year, hmm...
...so my plan is to pedal easy on all climbs, light tempo the flats, and, unlike Davis, look for friends to trade pulls with; typically I break my own wind on Century type rides, as I prefer the scenery, relaxing, and visiting to focusing on a wheel, but the CCD looks like a looong day.
The limit is 200 riders, so there may be some lonely stretches!
Anyone going this year?

I signed up, but am backing out - my fitness just isn't there this year and some family stuff has come up, making it an easier decision!
By the way, everyone I know who has done it describes it as surprisingly difficult - more like Knoxville than Davis. Expect headwinds for a good chunk of the ride.

Much has been written about this event; here's another 2 cents.
The route this year was changed due to HI 1 road closure, hence over Nacimiento-Furgeson down to 1, the turn around point, then back over and through the base, with otherwise unique route to and from the point where we entered the base.
The summit of Nastymenal-f)*$*er is about 2700 ft. Coming back from the coast, that elevation is reached in 7.5 miles. Since there is a hint of complaning in the previous sentance, here's the rest of my lil' gripes and whines! The descent off N-F was freezing! Having got a bit damp climbing, the evaporation, even with all layers (it was in the 40s at start), brrr. There was a long stretch of howling wind straight on. There was a smattering of rain, which abated, however, over the last fifteen miles it retured and soaked our butts good. o.k., done complainin'
The support is excellent! Is, because this ride has a rep, and they will do it again next year. Thanks to all!
Manny and I reached Paso Robles just before midnight. There was one rider still on the course at that time. The lasagna dinner crew were still on - I did eat a gob full.
The uncontrolled shivers set in 'bout then, which did subside on the drive home, and finally abate as I emptied the hot water heater under the shower. o.k. I complained some more.
The ride, just beautful. Although there were a few stretches with some traffic, there were also many absolutely solitary miles.
The views on the ocean side of previously mentioned n-f road, spectacular, as were the flowers and wildlife ( saw a bobcat up close on the base, and many other critters, birds, bugs, snakes, lizards, fish, and amphibians... and country folk).
It was quite a challenge, but thankfully I was able to enjoy the experience - mostly.
Thanks to Manny and Steve for joining up with me over the last 30 miles. We kept a steady and easy pace - nice to have some friends over that last bit.
Next year, Hell yeah!
However, I hereby resolve to toe the start thinner, lighter, fitter, and I'm sure it will be just as fun and a f'n b as well!!
