Welcome, Joe, 'hope to see more of you in the subforum and out on the various rides during the year. This ride is generally a mellow ride and I've ridden with all the folks who've responded thus far, and I would say they're all seasoned riders and could go much faster than this ride is advertised at. That said, there's no waiver/release for this ride, so if you crash and go to emergency, please make sure your insurance premiums are paid up. Like Joel mentioned, this ride does have a climb right in the middle, but if you can do half of Diablo you should be fine on this ride. As a no-drop ride, no one will be left behind, even if you do get a route slip at the beginning. 'Hope to see you on the 4th.

I'd like to go though I haven't ridden in a really long time so better for me if the ride date is a couple of weeks out. Is there a way to bypass the big climb?

1. At winters, instead of going down Winters road, continue on Putah Creek Road, take a left on Pleasant Valley Road and wait for everyone at the bottom of Cantelow.
2. Follow same route, but Part way up Cantelow, split off onto Steiger Hill road to Gibson Canyon Road. Then, take Vaca Valley road to Pleasant Valley road. Meet back up at base of Cantelow. This adds about 3 miles but is a MUCH milder climb over Steiger.
3. Start in Winters and do the same route. Still will have to do the big climb, but will save 30 miles of your legs.

Have you ridden Cantelow? I recall that only the end was "difficult" - it wasn't that bad. It mostly stepped up along the way.

I remember it as relatively short and a bit of grunt, but not hard in and of itself. You could surely work up an oxygen debt trying to hammer it or time trial it.

As far as I know, June 4 works for me, so I'll be there. I'll even see if I can drag bigbossman along, and maybe even MarkoPolo. No promises, though.
So far, this year has sucked in terms of miles. I got zero miles in for the entire month of March, and May has been pretty much the same. Of course, I have spent most of May so far in the Canadian Rockies. Very pretty, and I've done some great hikes, so at least the cardiovascuar system hasn't gone completely to hell . . . .

Wish I could join this ride, but have already committed to a flyfishing trip that weekend. (How come all my hobbies are so efficient at sucking up such huge quantities of time and money!)

I'll be there! 10# heavier and slower than when we did this ride last time, but I'm game. Sloooowwww. Darn rain and too many pastries. Will the tandem train come Deb, to draft behind? Nice seeing you at the Delta, Norman!

Diana, if TOWMBO comes on the ride, we might bring the tandem, though I don't know how much of a draft you'll get off it.

Aw, c'mon, what Aggie hasn't learned that no final is worth missing a bike ride for?

Don't mince words
That means I'm riding the Diva...yes, that carbon fiber blessed by the Pope; that was put into a wind tunnel and disappeared; that weighs less than a fart and costs more than a divorce (borrowed from BigBossMan, with apologies). Good thing I'm old and slow or no one would be able to hold my wheel.

Looking forward to next week's ride & catching up with folks.

Well that's just great, bbm, I look a day or so ago and it looks like it's gonna be a decent day, comfy temps... Now, you come along and "rain" on the parade.. So this is the forecast for Sat:
Saturday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64.
We'll see if things change as we get closer to the weekend.
Matt, Steady Eddy's is the stop for lunch, etc. Red Rider was talking about the start of another ride from a few years ago that started in Vacaville.

"More rain is expected, too, with a chance of showers today, Wednesday and Friday, followed by an almost certain downpour in the region Saturday. Temperatures will continue to hover in the 60s in most places."
