Is it time for another Steady Eddy's run?

What say all you slow pokes and flatlanders, is it time for a run to Steady Eddy's like the days of yore, before The Valley burns us to a crisp? Discuss amongst yourselves and let's do a social.

OK, more info on the ride:

Route: https://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...nters-Cantelow

POSTPONED TO A DATE TBA...Date/Time: Xxxx xx, 2011, SomeWeekendday, 9AM start (subject to change if forecast is for !@#$%^& HOT!)

Start & Finish: Starbucks Coffee

Uh, you don't qualify as a "slow poke."

But it's a fun sounding idea. I'm out of town for the next two weekends, but I'd up for it after that.

Very well, we shall entertain dates starting Memorial Day weekend and out, but let's not go too far out..

I don't see why not. I kinda like the rolling hills back there, so for the faster folks like yourself, I would encourage you to do both sides of Cantelow, or repeats, while waiting for the regroup at the top. No sense in wasting all that prime vertical real estate, eh? Perhaps one of these masochistic days we'll do Mix & Gates Canyons, and top it off with Cantelow, but this ride ain't one of 'em.

Anyone have a preference for a starting point? In the past we've done Davisville, Vacaville, ...?

That Cantelow ride is a fun one. I'm doing mtb festivities during memorial day weekend but the weekends after I could probably secure a baby sitter and come out for a ride.

If we start at our house I can offer a post-ride shower, and maybe we can factor in a meal, too.

Or we can start near here and finish at a local restaurant for those not fond of pot-lucks.

Either way we have 2 showers and aren't shy about sharing them, and are happy to be included in any capacity.

Date?

Uhm, I think May 8th is juuust a bit too short notice for most of us to get our act together to do this ride.

OK, let's do this, cast votes for 6/4, 6/11, and 6/18, and let's see what fits into folks' scheds, how's that? We can decide on route along the way, too, but at least we can shoot for a date.

That could be kind of interesting. If we toss in the Lake Solano loop, how many miles do you figure that would be, Deb?

About 30-35 miles.

A couple notes: to get to Pleasant's Valley Rd. from here you have to ride through town (adding about 5-7 miles) or climb Cantelow east to west. It's the longer but not-as-steep side. At the west end of Cantelow we turn right and head towards Winters.

To do a reverse loop and climb Cantelow as you describe we head north and east from the house, ride with the prevailing winds along the 505 (or an option to loop thru sunflower fields and nut orchards), hit Steady Eddy's, and then head up PV to Cantelow; climb 400+ in .9 mi., and coast back to the house.

But those details can be worked out after we choose a date.

OK, well, other factors are pointing to 6/4 for me, so in the interest of keeping it relatively EZ access, maybe we'll try that Starbucks start from several years ago. I'll see if I can go find the map, etc for that ride, and we'll start with that.

Right-o, Matt, I do believe that's the route. This is the one I plotted out a few years back, which should be essentially the same:

https://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...nters-Cantelow

I'll go ahead and mod post #1 and folks can just check that for updates, etc. Is everyone jake w/ a 9AM start? I have to drag the clan from SJ, which is a couple hours or so.

If Sun works better than Sat for folks, it's np to change the date, but ppl need to express their pref. Joel, are you and Bess ok w/ Sat, or...?

***Wow, did all the oldtimers flee this scene, or is everyone out riding their bikes?...

I think Saturday will be ok. Pretty good chance we'll find a sitter. I'm good with other dates too if someone wants to suggest one.

I dunno where everyone is! But I've been out riding.

I can't speak for everyone else but I've been riding every chance I get, and ridiculously busy with work.

I have no preference for Sat. or Sun. The 5th is out, as I have a time trial in Davis that day.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again. It's been ages since I've seen most of y'all.

hi,

my name is joe and i am retired and live in walnut creek. i ride about 20 miles every day and occasionally ride up mt diablo,.. ok halfway up mt diablo.

i rarely ride with anyone so won't be riding close enough to hurt anyone (ha).

it sounds like a flat ride and about 50 miles. am i right?

i won't wear a helmet so if anybody is going to be judgemental well...

if outsiders are welcome and the date and start/stop point is confirmed, please post.

thanks,

joe (in walnut creek)

Joe, wear a helmet. As far as I'm concerned, it's mandatory. There is one hill and some rollers. But much of the ride is flat.
