Hayward Rides
Recently moved to Hayward, haven't seen any other serious bike riders since getting to the area. Where is everyone? Where do they ride? I've found the hills behind CSU East Bay and plan on making it out to Palomares Rd this weekend. Bikely doesn't have very many good maps. Anyone know of some rides around Hayward or Castro Valley?

I used to ride to/from Hayward a fair amount. You can take Redwood Road all the way from Hayward/Castro Valley heading north to Pinehurst/Grizzly/Skyline, etc. That road opens to the door to all the good rides in the Oakland/Berkeley hills and Contra Costa. Enjoy!

I ride around Castro Valley. Riding up CSU East Bay and you have choices to come down via Five canyons parkway and you can go to Dublin/San Ramon/Pleasanton/Livermore for longer rides. As ROJA said, Redwood is another exit to longer rides. For shorter ones, there are Cull Canyon, Sunny Slope, Villareal Dr, you know, those neighborhood rides. If you ride MTB, there are good trails around Five Canyons Pkwy and you can go all the way to Garin/Dry Creek.

Awesome, thanks. I've been going up Five Canyons after work because it's close enough that I can get up and down before the sun sets. When the days get longer or on weekends I can start venturing up Redwood and Cull Canyon areas.

Redwood Road & beyond is awesome. Great for road, mtb & moto! If you check out the Endless Cycles shop they can probably offer some good roads starting from there. I also really like the bay trail around Hayward for easy & scenic rides.

Cull Canyon? I have to go down that road one of these days. Are Miller/Rifle Range road off limits? I know that area is watershed and mostly closed to the public.

Oh damn! How much of that is vertical? I'd be down to at least try, not as good this year as I have been in the past...

Here's a suggestion, from Castro Valley, head up Castro Valley Blvd, then Dublin Canyon Road out to Stoneridge Mall, take a right on Foothill, left on Bernal towards Pleasanton, then right on Vineyard, head to downtown Livermore, cross under 580, then take N. Livermore up to Highland, Tassjara, Crow Canyon, Dougherty, Bollinger, Norris Canyon, back to Crow Canyon into Castro Valley

That's an excellent looking ride. I didn't realize how easy it is to get across the hills into some more open terrain until y'all started giving me ideas. Now that the sun is coming out again I can do some scouting with the motorbike as well.

Hey guys,
Don't forget about the Marin Headlands by the beach and the Golden Gate Bridge. Of course, if you go onto the beach, you just might need a Pugsley!
