Alpine Dam/Mt Tam

I'd really like to do that loop (plus up Mt Tam) but have never really ridden in the area. Lot of turns in the Mill Valley section. How annoying. I don't suppose the route is marked?

That's one of the most beautiful ride in the Bay Area.

This is my favorite ride in the area - definitely one of the most beautiful rides around. 360 degree views on the top are amazing.

The route through mill valley is downhill and is marked/easy to follow. You pretty much follow the biggest road at each turn once you turn off panoramic onto Sequoia valley. You can ignore the bike route sign that turns you right off Molino onto James street - this is more for uphill traffic around a very steep section of Molino.

Alternatively, continue along panoramic to highway 1 and go down that. More car traffic (on weekends you'll be braking behind cars the whole way down), but a little easier to follow. At the bottom you go under 101 and then get back on the bike path.

Super easy, depending on where you start (with the bridge down to one lane be careful going over to Marin) say San Francisco. Just ride straight over to Sausalito and keep going north to Fairfax, lots of cyclists and not easy to get lost. Take a left in Fairfax on the Bolinas Fairfax Road, and start climbing, you take a break at Alpine Dam then climb out to the "Seven Sisters" which ends at Mt Tam you have an option of turning left again and climbing up to the top of Tam or bombing down back to San Francisco. It is a great ride. Do it now before it gets too hot!

PS we are doing that ride this weekend leaving from Mike's Bikes in Sausalito on Sat the 18th at 8:30 you are more than welcome.

Beautiful route. When are you wanting to ride it?

spingineer 06-17-11 04:02 PM

Yea, when you doing it? Can't do it tomorrow (because I'm doing both sides of Hamilton tomorrow). Maybe we can get taxi777 to lead us through his spaghetti route through to Alpine Dam.

Yeah, great ride, great memories. If Taxi-man shows up here and says he'll lead it, I'll drive up for it!

Did this today and it was pretty awesome. The cyclists I've encountered were pretty helpful with directions (I'm from Socal). The views were really awe inspiring. I've just started cycling last September and this is the best route I've ever taken. One cyclist was saying that the Seven Sisters should have been the Seven B*****s LOL.

I ended up doing this Friday. Gestalt Haus in Fairfax is awesome.
