By Robert Salonga
Contra Costa Times

Police seek witnesses to and tips about a hit-and-run collision in Walnut Creek Monday afternoon that left a bicyclist injured.

The crime was reported about 4:15 p.m. when a light-colored SUV traveling east on Mt. Diablo Boulevard approaching Bont Lane struck a bicyclist, also going east, police said.

The SUV was last seen turning onto Bont Lane, police said. The driver was described as a woman with dark hair pulled into a ponytail.

Police said the bicyclist suffered head injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has information for police can contact Officer Mike Adams at 925-943-5844

Since both the driver and victim were going east and approaching Bont lane, I wonder if this is a case of the driver not allowing enough clearance for passing, or if the driver did a right-hook thing.

That's a really wide road, two lanes each way plus parking on both sides plus a turn lane in the middle. Also busy since it's commercial, close to Ace Hardware and an approach to Hwy 24 (westbound direction). Inconceivable that no one saw anything.

After hitting the cyclist, the vehicle was last seen making a left turn onto Southbound Bont Lane.

OK, Bont Lane is one block long and dead end. There are a couple small businesses and a Catholic elementary school - should be pretty easy to narrow down the people who use the road. But from eastbound MDB, it would be a right turn so something's wrong about the story.
