Where's a good place to park in Carmel for 5 days?

Planning a light coastal tour leaving from Carmel. Can anyone suggest a good safe place to park a car for 5 days? Free, Fees, are all fine.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Hmmm... well I know you could always try parking in the Safeway parking lot on hwy1 and rio road. I am not sure if they actually check cars on how long they have been there. I know the town of Carmel has a paid parking lot on mission and 8th, but I am not sure what the rates are for day parking.

Thanks budkid, I heard the same but I don't want to run the risk of getting towed. I contacted the police dept in Carmel and they said the City has a 48 hr parking restriction in one spot and that includes paid parking. They did recommend Monterrey Regional Airport, and their long term parking rate is $10/day.

If it's like most places, the 48-rule is only used to tow junkers and eye-sore vehicles (i.e., very selective enforcement). I'd bet you could find a random neighborhood and park there for 5 days w/o any problems (but check for street cleaning).
